As quickly as they are removing requirement, I am starting to feel bad for people that probably incurred extra costs etc. only for it to become unnecessary a month or two later. I never did know what a "sponsor" actually was, but I guess it doesn't matter now.

And yet grandchild’s school just went back to remote here in Kyoto due to cohort outbreak among seven kids.

Replace "sponsor" with "travel agent" and you'll get a fair approximation.
