The fact this gets a 4th season but Baccano doesn't get a second season will always be a source of frustration for me

Because - according to Wikipedia - Baccano's first season was cancelled during its Japanese TV run and the final episodes went straight to DVD. That probably explains why no one ever licensed it for streaming.
Baccano is one of those shows that is way more popular with American viewers than it was with Japanese ones, likely because it was set in (a somewhat realistic) America with an entirely European and adult cast. I would wager that the same is true of the "space westerns" trend: Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Coyote Ragtime Show etc. are more highly regarded by American anime fans (who ironically often aren't fans of American westerns!). I guess an inverse of how sports anime is huge in Japan but - Haiyku!! and Blue Lock aside - aren't nearly as popular in America where a not significant chunk of the anime fandom adamantly dislikes competitive athletics.
But Durarara, though clearly a lesser show, not only didn't get cancelled but ran for 5 whole cours! Ditched the adult European cast and American setting for (primarily) Japanese high schoolers in contemporary Ikebukuro. Looks like they learned their lesson.

I am the same way with Fairy Tail! I will never watch it because I am not a 12 year old boy, but it amazes me how the very vocal contingent absolutely dedicated to trashing it and everything Hiro Mashima touches - i.e. this article and its comment animenewsnetwork.com/review/farmagia/anime-series/.225387 - seems to forget that, as we are never going to run out of 12 year old boys, it and things like it are always going to be more popular than [insert anime way more popular with 35 year old western critics than Japanese anime viewers here].

It's horrible I tell ya, horrible!
I just wish I never watched it in the first place because I obligate myself to finishing what I start.
At least there's worse things out there...

Looks like they pandered to bloody teens! The industry is too obsessed with pandering to fickle teenagers who don't know what quality looks like!! Also bebop is just as popular in Japan as it is un the west because it didn't get bloody cancelled fir stupid reasons! Only reason Japanese didn't like baccano was because of deep seated resentment towards the west after WW2. At least that's how I see it

I'm pretty sure that Baccano was never animated by TMS so i don't understand why you expecting a baccano sequal from them..
