Okay from what I hear about the premise, the parents treatment main character is like Disney's adaption of Cinderella, Disney's first Cinderella adaption that is, the 1922 Laugh-o-Grams short. In that version, the step sisters motivation are laziness and knowing they are incompetent and without their little step sister they can't take care of themselves That is what we get with the parents of the main character.

And old school fairy tale like, most fairy tales that are are known to have evil step parents like Hansel and Gretel and of course Cinderella, originally they were jerk parents.

And I thought I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons had a dark first episode. God dam. I just hope we are not going to see her parents very much after this. Looks like she has stock home syndrome. I mean no girl please no.

For this man, it is like he adopted a puppy that has been abused by her previous owner. Can she ever get over it.

And can I say the guy's mom looks great for her age. I saw this woman show up, not only do I think that is his sister, but his little sister, dam I want to know her secret.

Actually I do have a theory here, I don't think Marie is related to these people. A red head in a family nothing but blonds, something doesn't add up. I think her real mom was the family maid, she died. That is why her parents are so horrible.

This is about the most basic execution of the premise possible. Compared to, say, My Happy Marriage which had a lot more going on. Its also visually quite poor- odd choices (green to show radiant hair is a no, thanks) and lots of static panning shots. I'm able to appreciate this kind of basic outline but it needs to bring more to the table fast.

I have a guess the sister isn't dead? They only show a broken shoe and that would be more dramatic later.

Episode 1

Iteration # 10,875,543 in the Pride & Prejudice / Cinderalla Narrative Sweepstakes. I checked this out purely out of a cya notion (where I'm dubious I'll like a title but watch it juuuuuust in case it's better than I expected) and I have to say I didn't hate it. I'll try some more. I have a feeling I will eventually tire of the treacly, "oh I'm expecting abuse but actually everybody is being super nice to me" dynamic, but we'll see.

@ Eilavel - I think you might be right about Anastasia. I hope you are. In the short time she was onscreen I kind of liked her because she wasn't a cow to her sister and she had that unexpected cosplay thing going on.

Can we take the parents out of this series and put them in Monster and let Johan do his thing.

I don't think they are her real parents just because of Marie being the only red head in the family that is all blonds. Something has to be up there, it makes no sense genetically at the very least the mom might have had an affair with a red head man. But if they are, it is truly old school fairy tale, you know all those evil step parents you have in fairy tales, in the original versions those were actually their real parents, and they changed those characters to step parents in order to make is less scary to children.

Sorry, I can't speak to the anime since a haven't seen it yet, but a red head in a family of blonds is entirely possible. My father's family is an example. Also it can pop up after a few generations without any red heads. It is a recessive trait which means both parents have to have the trait and to have provided that portion of their DNA to the appropriate egg/sperm.

It isn't just the red hair Marie is much taller than her "older sister", that it confused me and the fiancé, that he accidentally proposed to the wrong sister. She either is only related to one of the parents, or not really their daughter.

Actually, do wonder if the sister could have faked her death, and gave her sister an out of the household by knowing that the prince had confused them and her father would send he sister in place. The sister looked quite into the making clothes thing... maybe even used it as a disguise, since the specific bit about her liking male clothes is a bit of an odd detail if she was just getting killed off.

I think the sister faked her death too.

I said this somewhere else, but if I hadn't just watched the Too Perfect Saint last season, I'd give this show a few more episodes.

But the awful to the point of caricature bad parents and the sudden shift to a new environment practically glowing with positive vibes and unconditional love unburdened by any human weaknesses so that a wooden, repressed MC can slowly start to form more than simple sentences is very familiar. I don't have anything against this genre, but it's not one of my borderline addictions either, so I'm going to take a break from the dynamic for a season.

Normally I be against a guy taking a girl's agency by forbidden her from doing anything, but in this case, keep Marie away from her jerky parents by any means necessary.

Anyone get a sinister vibe from those two new maid characters, they seem like they want to murder someone.

Episode 2

Yeah, there seems to be something a little off with those two. I hope so because it'll be boring if everybody in the Count's household is nice to her.

So this series it seems like a mess mass of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. The main heroine treated like crap and an abusive childhood like Cinderella, and the male lead trying to win her like Beauty and the Beast and the stock home syndrome.

BTW the sister has the same name as one of Cinderella's step sisters in the Disney movie, is that intentionally?

Ehh...Its definitely not much of a "Beauty and the Beast". Definitely more "Cinderella, but the abuse got internalized." I see the reference to Stockholm Syndrome, but that mostly gets shed in a pretty anticlimactic manner. Past that, its just survivor's guilt and the abuse leaving scars.

Its a light fluffy tale. Its pretty easy to see the plot beats play out in a fairly standard manner, but Its hard to get mad at it being predictable when drama was never really the selling point.

Well what happened to the Baron, I can't help but think of

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fpl6Rk2pli0

Anyone it wraps nicely I guess. This is fairy tale inspired series, so I expected this over the top happy ending.

Though I hope the idea of this prince and the sister getting together is a joke, not true to the character, I am pretty sure the impression I get she likes girls, but that is just my opinion.
