I just watched all episodes of 2205 and 3199. While the 3199 episode is the second best so far and both of them are better than 2202, I still hope Akira and Melda/Merda doesn’t get killed off. Here’s my criticisms on both of them. Akira didn’t even have 5 minutes of screen time in 2205. Didn’t utilize her about her as the captain of the pilots. Gotten less screen time than any characters including the family got blown up in the Garmils planet. Akira didn’t even speak except for the battles and the training. Melda in 2205 had more screen time than Akira. Now in 3199, Akira didn’t even appear until the middle of episode 4. She might have a bit more screen time than she did in 2205 thanks to episode 9 but still for a season that’s going to last for 26 episodes, it’s still less like 2205 if not even less.
Kato’s son has WAY more screen time in 3199 than Akira ever does since 2205. They didn’t even shown Akira piloting as much as the other pilots like Kodai, Takeshi and Sakamoto. She was only shown for a few seconds while piloting, didn’t even shown her fired an enemy and killed one. So what’s the point of them killing off Akira? That’s one of the reasons why they really need to give Akira a spin off sequel and it’ll be best for the series and franchise in general. Another thing I was surprised by 3199 is that it’s actually more lighthearted than the previous seasons. It might have some dark moments but nowhere near as much as 2199 and 2202. The battles while good, weren’t as intense as the first 2 seasons, they’re doing slice of life elements with Kato’s son and Maxim’s daughter including their parents, Akira patted Takeshi’s head like a child (a cheesy and corny way to introduce Akira in 3199 btw) and Yamato members like Ryusuke Domon and Takeshi are fighting. In the latest episodes which came out just now, They didn’t even did scenes like Akira talking to Melda or even Sasha. I thought their going to have Akira do more scenes when I see the first seven minutes of chapter 4 a week prior to the premier in theaters in Japan but no all we got is nothing. All we got was the scene when Melda and Akira saw each other for the first time in 3199 for like a second. Like are you really that serious? I was very disappointed when they didn’t do things with Akira. They give her even less screen time than ever before in 3199. The scene where Kodai and Akira were talking about Sasha only lasted for like 30 seconds. Only shown Melda/Merda eliminated an enemy on foot for like a minute and only seen Akira while flying in the very beginning. Kato’s son and Maxim’s daughter still got way more screen time. They still don’t show Akira in the pilot for 5 seconds or even do anything badass and show Kodai, Takeshi and Sakamoto more than Akira piloting. She was just there. 95 percent of the characters has more screen time. Even Miki Saijo and Mikage Kiryu has more screen time than Akira ever does since 2205. What they SHOULD’VE done which would’ve been the smartest move ever happened with the series is that they should’ve completely written off Akira and Melda/Merda from the Rebel 3199 main series and have Akira and Melda/Merda their own spin off anime series during the events of Rebel 3199. They better not kill off Akira and Melda or even turn them into a villain. It’ll automatically be the worst season out of all, worst anime of the decade and worst anime of all time if they do and Rebel 3199 will be WAY worse than ANY bad anime that ever existed combined including Violence Jack OVA, Berserk 2016, Mars of Destruction, Pupa, Ex-Arm, Tenkuu Danzato Skelter Heaven, Promised Neverland Season 2, One Punch Man Season 3 etc etc etc. If they even consider it then why did they made Akira survive 2202? Why did they made her the captain of the pilots in the first place since 2205? Why did they give her a lot of screen time in 2199 and 2202? Why did they made a lot of posters, figures and merchandise for Akira? She’s got more action figures than anyone in the franchise as a matter of fact. Why did they promote her heavily in a lot of their promotions like in 2017 with Under Armour? Why did they made the 2199 spin off manga for Akira? Why did they EVEN created Melda Dietz/Merda Ditz in the first place? They’re already done with 55 percent of 3199 and it’ll be stupid if they kill them off. Also, F*CK HARUTOSHI FUKUI AND NAOMICHI YAMATO FOR KILLING OFF KAORU NIIMI OFF SCREEN!!! SHE DESERVED MUCH BETTER THAN THIS!!! It’s like their sexists who likes to degrade l female characters. They didn’t use Kaoru during most of 2202 and kill her off recently, didn’t use Melda at all in 2202, been giving Akira less screen time since 2202 and Kill off Iscandar sisters in 2205 but didn’t used them in 2202. I apologize for snapping and did a lengthy text. It’s just that I’m passionate for the series and I really like Akira(2199) and Melda. My favorite characters in the franchise. I just hope they make it through alive along with Sasha. I know Sasha is based on the original who died in Season 3 but still I hope they decided to keep her alive and do a lot with her character. She also has potential.

I wonder if there's any chance of getting this stuff dubbed in English and/or on Blu-Ray in North America anytime. There's a lot of Yamato stuff after 2202 that hasn't gotten released on discs and it makes me almost as angry as the LoGH DNT fiasco.

I don’t think it’ll happen until sometime after 3199 gets all done. I agree and including the original version which hasn’t been available in decades but I hope the unedited version comes to the States. They should’ve released 2205 in dub and blu Ray right away. LoGH hasn’t been available on HIDIVE since a couple years which grinds my gear. Same with the lack of home video release and the one they did a couple years ago with LoGH dvd was super expensive. I’m glad I watched the original version on HIDIVE before it left. |

Physical English-language media for LOGH effectively does not exist. Yamato's in a slightly better position, but I've mostly only heard negative comments w/r/t the "Star Blazers" localization of 2199, which might indicate less demand for the SBY franchise overseas since they appear to be catering to folks nostalgic for the old 70s Star Blazers dub.

That is the only English subtitled physical media that Sentai Filmworks released in 2018 and they didn’t release the standard version because they have no plans to which is messed up since it took them 4 years to sold out the premium box set of LoGH 2018-2022. |

I'm aware. "Effectively" means it's something that exists in theory, but not practically. Very few people had the $1000 USD required to actually buy the set when it was in-stock, and it hasn't been in-stock for a long time. In theory, yes, there is a legal option to watch LoGH in English, but in practice? Not really. Especially with it having left HDive, what was it, two years ago? Three?
It may as well have never happened. And it certainly did nothing to elevate LOGH's profile in the wider fandom -- it's as niche now as ever. As for why they were priced so prohibitively expensive in the first place, what I remember reading a while back was that the pricing was based on the Japanese rights-holder not wanting domestic consumers to import the English-language release at a potentially lower price-point than what they were paying in Japan. Which is... maybe true? Blu-ray prices in Japan are kinda silly, but I don't know that they're that silly. Then again, the Japanese BDs were all (to my knowledge) separate releases, rather than everything-in-one-box. |

Now I understand but yes, Prices in Japan for anime physical media is just ridiculous. LoGH had potential to be more popular in the US but it’s just poor marketing caused it to be more niche just like how’s going on with 2199 right now ever since it first started in 2012. It’s just crazy that first came out when I was 13 and now I’m 26. It feels like I’m having a long journey with them throughout my whole life and it gets me a long sad feeling when they killed off Kaoru Niimi recently. I hope they made the death of Niimi false. |

My point was actually about Die Neue These, which was dubbed for three seasons and then dropped from dubbing, so no season 4 dubbed or even subbed on Blu-Ray. It makes me upset in the same way as Yamato stuff not getting released here. It’s such a waste of potential.

Yes and I agree with that as well. I wish they would’ve did the immediate dub as well but I think it’s because 2199 is more of an OVA which always first released in theaters or direct to video and it’ll take a while to finally dub it. That’s my theory. |

Good to see it's doing well, though I'm waiting until it's all out before starting it. Definitely would like to see LoGH DNT season 4 get a release along with all the missing Yamato content. Not holding my breath though -_- |
