So, they REALLY want to keep Code Geass alive and running now?

This isnt surprising. When Lelouch of the Re:sureection was released, they announced it to be the first of a 10 year plan

Wasn't the original series like the most popular original series made by Sunrise after Gundam?
Still, I have some doubts, the original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is one most iconic anime of the 2000s, but I always felt like, unlike Gundam, I feel like the series cannot work with a new protagonist, CG's story doesn't work without Lelouch, I haven't seen anyone who remembers Akito of the Exiled, and Rozé of the Recapture wasn't a particularly good continuation (at least it took place in a separate continuity)

Bandai Namco are trying hard to keep the series alive. I've still not gotten around to, or had an interest in watching Akito & Rozé. The original series was and still is to this day, very good by itself.

Oh boy, I also a horrible feeling this one will also have an unsatisfactory ending, just like Babylon and Kado...

In the interests of fairness...there's isn't enough information to make solid judgments. This Mado Nozaki guy was a novelist more than an anime writer. Not a lot of staff credits within the anime industry.
It looks like Kado was the first anime production that he ever wrote for. It seems like they had to rush towards a conclusion, for better or for worse, but those circumstances aren't entirely controlled by the writer alone. I hope he has learned from that project.
He definitely wrote the novels for Babylon, not the show. I can't say for certain if the novels are better or different, because I never read them, but adaptation issues are common. It's likely they were at least popular enough to get an anime in the first place and might even still be ongoing.

Welcome to 2025. Shows/brands that people have nostalgia for aren't allowed to die.

Surprising that they didn't get CLAMP for the character designs again.
The Babylon author does worry me though. I really liked the beginning but it just got worse with every arc

Wait, so you're telling me Roze didn't have a TV broadcast before now? I could've sworn that it did...

13 films? The 3 compilations and the sequel make 4. Are the other 9 composed of Akito and Roze?
I wonder what the plan is for the new series. Roze managed to eke something out by setting things up in Hokkaido, but that feels like it's basically it for the old regime and they hopefully won't do the same thing again in another location.
Maybe they're just going to make an alternate universe with similar concepts but a different cast and setting?

The AU recap movies + Res = 4
Akito the Exiled = 5 OVAs (aired theatrically)
Rose of the Recapture =4 Films/12 episodes
There's also the Special Edition recuts that TV Geass got, similar to Gundam 00 and Gundam Seed + Destiny.

I'm going to give the benefit of doubt. There were parts of Roze and Akito that I really liked although in general they both fell short.
Thinking about it, the franchise is kinda similar to Evangelion in popularity. Especially in regards to how it's difficult to work without its original characters.
Anyway. I'm genuinely interested in that manga project. Ogawasara has done some amazing work. I can't imagine what I'll be like though.

I feel like this is something Sunrise, itself, recognized fairly early one when their first moves to branch out the franchise weren't side-stories, as is often the case with things like these, but rather alternate-universe stories so they could put the same characters in wildly different contexts.
IIRC that Nunally manga was especially well-received.
Anyway, seems like it'd be more interesting to animate AUs (whether based on existing manga or totally new ones) than these side-stories. I guess this is kind of how the Evangelion franchise keeps chugging along, so it's not totally unprecedented. And arguably the (much shorter lived) Mai Hime/Otome franchise. And maybe also Fate? I could never really get into Fate, so I'm not sure if it's the same characters that keep getting reused, or just the same character designs.

Like others have said, I really don't know how you can do more stuff with Geass (especially in universe). Akito was kind of a nothing with the most interesting stuff just being more hints on things involving Geass side of universe. And trying to do a more modern day Geass doesn't even make much sense because the themes Geass has on rebellion, class, and what it takes to have peace are even more resonant today. It is hard to even do side stories for Geass cause the revolution itself is so focused on Japan and the Black Knights.
Honestly, maybe they should take a page out of Fate/Stay universe and just do a fun slice-of-life comedy with the characters.
