Shankar burned through all the goodwill he had with Season 1, and between it and Nocturne, I think the average audience is just about done giving pseudo-anime adaptations of video games chances.
There are cases where writers who try too hard loosen up and make a much better sequel product. The big one I think of is Masters of the Universe Revolution, where Kevin Smith stops trying so hard and just focuses on a compelling Skeletor and He-Man story, while addressing the complaints about Revelation in a way that didn’t feel bitter, but built on them for character development and story. I don’t think Shankar is capable of that.
