This just reminds me that I still have Votoms in my backlog, just sitting on my shelf, waiting to be watched -_-

I've tried to get through Votoms twice, and couldn't. I can see why others like it, but I didn't much care for it myself. But maybe Oshii can do with Votoms what he did with Patlabor.

I feel like Oshii has lost his talent, but maybe he can prove me wrong.

I want to be excited about this but also I still remember how Fire Hunter turned out.

Oshii had nothing to do with the direction of Fire Hunter, Vlad Love would be the actually relevant thing to bring up here

Whoa OK, that's quite an unexpected surprise. I finished watching the old school anime and OVAs a few years back. And I don't know how to react to this announcement.

Great news! Love the whole Votoms franchise... I just hope this isn't full CGI though...

I've (I think in a very minority view) generally enjoyed the VOTOMs OVAs more than the original TV series. It has high points but its pacing is glacial and the characters a mixed bag. The OVAs are punchier, and they've still got the atmosphere and Chirico.

Which means this sounds pretty great!

So I presume this is some sort of side story or distant sequel given Sunrise's notable distaste for remakes. That, and I don't know if Oshii would just want to remake the original series.

Votoms itself is nothing special outside its place in history and Oshii hasn´t made anything good since Sky Crawlers, but hope dies last. He bombs again, then I´ll just cut my losses real fast. Mamoru Oshii still has to make even one real action film or series but this IP is as ponderous as his usual works, so brace yourself for a slow thriller with some action instead of John Wick in a mech on skates.

Kind of surreal to see Votoms making a comeback.

He was still the writer and the story was also garbage.

This reminds me that I need to revisit the Scope Dog statue in Tokyo on a cloudy day during my next trip to get better pictures.

Which not only is completely irrelevant to an article about Oshii directing something, but also as series composer Oshii was just adapting preexisting material in the case of Fire Hunter. Take it up with Rieko Hinata if you feel that strongly about it lol

And what an... anime, that was.

At any rate, I'm pretty excited for this. Likeliest worst case to me reads as getting something interestingly flawed.
