It looks absolutely beautiful… and then you realize they won’t be going much further into the story. Probably only up to volume 4 at most?

This was already at the top of my most anticipated list and it somehow just keeps moving higher.

Most anime adaptations adapt 2-3 chapters an episode so with 12 episodes I'd anticipate between 24-36 episodes. My guess is whatever chapter makes the best stop point will be what they're probably aiming for.

Chapter count is kinda meaningless, not every manga out there is a weekly manga with 20 page chapters. In WHA's case, it's a monthly manga whose chapters are around 40 pages long iirc (and I think earlier chapters are even longer). What L'Imperatore is saying is correct, it'll probably go up to volume 4 as that's how much 1 cour usually adapts, although they could go slower like Spy x Family and adapt 3 volumes.

It’s absolutely beautiful. I hope the quality is sustainable and that we’ll get more than one season.

Fair not every series uses the same chapter count. Volume would be a better measure then and yea, a 20 page series covers chapters in the mid/high twenties to low/mid thirties during their 4th volume so unless the volumes have a different number of pages than other manga somewhere between 3 and 4 volumes is a safe bet.

It looks amazing! I've heard that Bug Films actually managed to finish production before it aired, so hopefully they can keep the quality going!
