You're welcome. Very Happy I'm barely ever here, but don't hesitate to ask me for similar things.

Mermaid Forest TV series (anime#2976) is listed as a prequel to the OVA from 1991.
That isn't correct, it is a reboot.

reasoning:
- The Mermaid Forest and Mermaid Scar OVA's are episodes in the TV-series.
- Mermaid Forest is eps 4+5 and Mermaid Scar is episode 12+13

sources:
- watching the anime myself

I realize that it's more than a year an half since you last posted, but I hope that you are still here (or that, if not, someone else can answer). Which of these does it best fit?:

  • remake of (same core story, "new and improved" animation/music/etc)
  • compilation of (same core story, re-use of footage, usually condensed to a shorter format)
  • alternate retelling of (same basic premise, story diverges)
  • remixed from (same basic premise, story diverges, re-uses footage from original)
  • amalgam of (footage used to create a new story)
  • alternate ending for (ignore end of original and craft new ending)

I would say it is a remake, the story remains the same but it is new animation

The live action Korean City Hunter series (anime#38541) should be listed as an adaptation of the original City Hunter manga.

Sorry for the double post, but Hatsukoi no Tsugi (manga#36551) is a spinoff of Koiiji (manga#16774)
