ANN might not have been able to confirm it, but it's pretty hard not to see the connections. Changes in "e-commerce strategy" and layoffs after delisting products, barely stocking/releasing its own products, and now a listing for the warehouse. At this rate, I'll be more surprised if Crunchyroll/Sony doesn't exit the physical anime space entirely.

I suppose it is possible that the owner of the building is looking to sell independent of Crunchyroll's intentions, but with the trends we're seeing, my guess is that the owner is looking to sell after finding out the long-time tenant isn't renewing its lease in 2030.

for some weird reason i'm not even surprised...with the price hike and the...several snafus the service has been in, felt like layoffs would've happened at some point...

at least it's nowhere near as baffling as ea's decision to lay off staff at battlefield studios, but i-i feel like it's getting kinda close to it...it's also still pretty bad, so there's that...

And as bad as all of this is (and it's really bad), can't wait untill they start firing people because malfunctioning AI will take over the jobs.

That probably isn't far behind. Recently, I went to use the customer service part of their site, and it sends you to a chatbot. If the option to email customer service was still there, then I was not seeing it.

I don't know what all being a product designer for Crunchyroll entailed, but cutting a position like that sounds like something you would do if you're planning to not sell much product.

Try this link for filling out a form to then receive an answer via email (I will warn you, they took at least 4 days to respond to my ticket): https://help.crunchyroll.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I feel like they buried the form option to force people to use the chatbot.

I assume it would be to design products that are specifically Crunchyroll-branded: shirts, bags, et al.

I think I had mentioned here before that I expect CR stills require a presence in the physical merchandise space, but TRSI was a storefront first and a distributor second. CR being the opposite means it's not going to care as much.

Wishing all the best for those who've lost their job.

This news does explain a little about why there is no Physical releases beyond May. You've heard of Netflix jail now be prepared for Crunchyroll jail.

Yeah... It wasn't hard to guess, but I can say I knew what was coming. And to that, I have a little video I'd recommend.

They've been doing a binary code of new blu ray releases this year so it makes sense.

Home media industry is showing sign of growing, but sony/cr doesn't like that, they want us stuck on their jail with bad image quality and shows leaving after licenses expire.

Another day, another reason to be into hidive/sentai even if they don't support my country, at least I can buy their stuff.

But there are physical releases?

The June 2026 slate is in for Crunchyroll home video, and Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE leads the pack! The Blu-ray release of Part 1 is due out on June 30 and up for pre-order now alongside three other June releases, including one newcomer and two expanding their availability.

In the case of the latter, availability expands in June for Assassination ClassroomOpens in a new tab - The Complete Series and the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc - Memorial EditionOpens in a new tab Steelbook. You can see more on the former hereOpens in a new tab.

There’s also a Steelbook release for The Apothecary Diaries Season 1 on the way in July, so read on for the full list and hit the pre-order links for more information.

Oh, that's already been a thing for a looooooooooong time, especially once Crunchyroll stopped sublicensing stuff out after Sony purchased them. There's a metric ton of catalog titles & old simulcasts that could never potentially get physical releases due to Crunchyroll.

And the Crunchyroll jail is a big reason behind not buying a lot of anime over the past few years, as the series I've watched and want to own they have refused to put onto any sort of physical media. Or the ones I have wanted didn't get a special edition where as others in the series did (looking at Dr. STONE S3, which also had the decision of placing the very important Ryusui OVA on the 2nd half versus needing it to make the 1st half make sense... but at least they did include it).

I can't help but wonder if any of the businesses in Japan are aware of and worried about this. Surely it can't be seen as a good thing that Crunchyroll is basically cutting down a whole avenue of business, whether through neglect or intention.
