Well that's awfully embarrassing for Dragon Quest, a franchise that's usually above this sort of creatively bankrupt trend-chasing.

A disgrace to the franchise. I hope it hits them back very hard

Oh boy, that's not going to do well for DQ fans in Japan and in the west. Well that, and the gamers backlash on DLSS 5 where the post DLSS effect on characters look too much like AI slop in term of discussing AI.

Where Winds Meet already did something like this and it was pretty well received and can be very fun and creative and seems to have garnered nothing but praise. I wonder if that's where they got the idea from. There's also mods to turn Skyrim's NPCs into reactionary AI which is pretty cool too.

There is no game on Earth, or feature "cool" enough to cost the survivability of the planet.

I'd rather have drinking water, thanks.

Looking forward to this being like Darth Vader in Fortnite with people trying to see what they can get it say and running into various canned responses about how it's irrelevant to the game.

I'm not surprised to see this after just reading some comments out of SE about how younger people aren't as into Final Fantasy because it "takes too long" between games. Obviously, the solution to that is to have a chatbot instead of hiring writers to come up with dialogue. Confused

Was that the one where players immediately convinced the NPCs to solve the quests for them and have cybersex?

Think of this AI companion like Amazon Alexa. I'm pretty sure the AI companion will be limited. Square Enix Japan knows what they're doing. Dragon Quest X has always been successful in Japan, and will continue to be. And yes, I l know version 8 will be the final main story installment, but they will continue to keep the game going for years to come.

Seems like a fun and creative idea to me which honestly makes me surprised Dragon Quest of all games would implement it given how stagnant the series can be. An interactive NPC that actually responds to you has a lot of potential. Laughing Debating the slime which Dragon Quest girl is best or who to marry and why would be quite funny or general theorycrafting about the story and characters. The only problem I see is these kinds of things would force an online connection for single player games but since X is an online game anyway it wont matter much but if I wanted something like this in DQ11 or something I can see people not liking an always online feature but then again a lot of single player games already do that anyway...
