Lots of my favourite artists and Science Saru are making this, so I am very excited to see. The trailer was nice. They are always boundary pushing, this seems unique.

Not the adaptation's fault, but the Arabic designs for the characters look oddly out-of-place to me. The main character is from Persia, okay, but Mongolia is supposedly somewhat removed from Middle East influence.

This show takes place at the time of Mongolian invasions into the Middle East, including establishing a khanate in the area of Persia. Not strange at all to see a blending of culture and dress at times like that

Eventually, sure, but if Genghis Khan is still alive then this is the very first generation of the Mongol conquerors.

And so within the narrative space of this series they have adopted the dress of the people the are conquering. Not especially difficult to wrap one's head around

Not difficult, just unrealistic. And also something I'd consider a missed opportunity to take a deeper look into Mongol culture, which is what would interest me the most in a show like this.

This looks amazing. Both the art style and the narrative hinted at in the trailer made me really excited. 2026 could be remembered as one of the best anime years ever.

The only mongol you see in that entire preview is at the very end and he's clearly wearing different dress. The other characters you see are all Persian as this is in Persia (and later on Mongolia).

Yes, the Mongols wouldn't have gotten influenced by Persia until around the time of Genghis Khan's grandson Hulagu, who would later sack Baghdad and found the Ilkhanate from its ashes.

Anyways, remember that time the Khwarezmian Empire royally pissed off Genghis Khan for killing his envoys? Well, that's where the Mongols come in when they sacked the cities of Khwarezm in 1221, including Tus (Sitara's hometown) and Nishapur (where Muhammad was about to study in), all in modern day Iran.

Sitara and Muhammad are supposed to be based on two historical figures: Fatima Khatun (died 1246), the chief advisor of Toregene Khatun during her regency following the death of her husband Ogedei Khan; and Muhammad Nasir al-din al-Tusi (1201-1274), a Persian scholar who would become an influential member of the court of Hulagu Khan.
