I think that's ultimately a good sign of the potential pitfall for the GiTS show, neither of these are worse than GiTS (I'd even say applessed is superior), the reason GiTS has cultural cachet is the Oshii movie.... which mostly threw everything about the Shirow version out the window. |
The manga has been constantly republished since that time and had reach beyond just your typical manga audience of each era, so I don't know I'd say the original comic has 0 weight behind it. It was, and has been, reviewed positively on its own merits all the while, so I'm doubtful anything about it will outright tank its popularity to any meaningful extent.
Of course, I don't mean to be too dismissive of what you're saying here, since it is after all hard to say how popular GiTS would be without the movie, and SAC for that matter. There are parts of the manga's lore which I figure fans of those may see as violations of the GiTS worldview, funny as that is to say. Still, I'd imagine that'll probably just be more fun discourse football than anything actually damaging, so long as SARU doesn't uncharacteristically drop the ball somehow. |
Its actually pretty easy to say how popular GiTS would be without the movie, we just look at how popular applessed/Dominion are (even those are overestimation since a lot of their appeal over time was "from the creator of GiTS").
I don't think the popularity of this GiTS will be abysmal, I imagine it will actually do quite well, mostly on account of the visual which help it stand out. But let say this was an alternate reality where GiTS movie never happened (which means SAC never happened) and this adaptation had the budget/team of, say, Liar game from last season. I feel pretty confidant that it would do about as well as... well, Liar game.

For me, it's Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia (my Seasonal Line subject over in the social media hellsite trenches), My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked, the second cour of Liar Game and the simuldub of Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs 2. The Ghost in the Shell, which I'll henceforth be calling Ghost in the Shell 2026, will wait for later as part of my usual group-viewings with family.

Glad to see Clevatess season 2 on the list.
No hype for Nanoha or is entry just too high/difficult for it now?

From what I've read from Nanoha experts (I've only seen some of the franchise), the new installment is pretty deep into one branch of the franchise rather than a standalone. The source manga for Exceed is instead a follow-up to the third and fourth movies (which are follow-ups to the first two movies, which are movie-condensed versions of the first two TV series). So it's not connected at all to StrikerS or the two ViVid series, but you still have to have seen either four movies or two series and two movies, none of which is available legally for streaming and much of which isn't available cheaply (if at all) on BR. I should be caught up to it by the time it debuts, so I can comment in the Preview Guide thread if it's comprehensible or not as a standalone.

While I don't necessarily disagree on this point, I do think you're not giving enough weight to the importance the GiTS movie had in fandom as one of the major gateway titles of the mid-90s through early 2000s (really up until the Big Three shonen titles got rolling). The hard-core sci fi/cyberpunk approach attracted into the hobby many serious sci fi fans who might have been turned off by antics like NDTP (which felt much more like a title aimed at established fans).

For me its WSR, just because I've read the novel up to its latest volume and also the manga. So im expecting to see the characters come to life and move in animation. The other one is the Insipid Prince and maybe the others like chaimsmoker cat and that supermarlet one. I guess i need to visit lineups again for more anime that im interested to

I get such a kick out of the thumbnail image of Tanya, the best possible representation and captures exactly how rabidly I have been anticipating! Not only that but Clevatess and Mushoku Tensei, as one commentator observes, this season, we feast!!
