Funimation really were cheap skates at times.

It was also around that time period when they had that one Sakura Wars OVA sent to LA, as ordered by Sega to keep it consistent with the Geneon movie cast, and even for that, they couldn't get Michelle Ruff back to voice Sumire.

Reaching the goal is one thing. Getting it to the finish line is another. Good luck to all!
(And this coming from a family who were collecting the LDs -- more like hunting in those anime-desert days -- as those were coming out)

I would so love to know what happened with that one. It’s not like Michelle was union only then, and they somehow got Mary McGlynn back when she kind of was (at least for anime around that time). Plus the end product had Sandy Fox playing two different characters with two different pseudonyms. Truly bizarre.

I found the video on YouTube and skimmed it some (no remote time to watch all 3 hours). I was kinda hoping a dub/Blu-ray of OVAs 4-5 would be a future campaign, but now I’m less optimistic since it seems, at the very least, he doesn’t care for those. As much as I prefer the Universe timeline, I’d still like to have those for completions sake (plus it’s not like they’re long). Having the Japanese manga material and the light novels finally translated would be cool too, and wouldn’t require a huge campaign either. |
While they are calling it a "spiritual successor," to Tenchi Universe, it must be said, it is not a real one. I think that Armiger is still limited to working only with the "American Tenchi Continuity" - as they call it (based off the Panime/ US comic the Kickstarted last year). If/when a longer series starts getting produced, I wouldn't be surprised if Armiger starts losing control and AIC/Negishi (and his Studio Saber) could change things up as they wish.
I will say that it is impressive what they are doing with some determination and a good contact to get them started (Robert Woodhead from AnimEigo) - they are still essentially 3 dudes with very limited professional credentials. They are not some big studio, they're sticking their foot in the door.

Even if Armiger wanted to dub the newer Tenchi OVAs, Sony is streaming them. No home video release doesn't mean they aren't sitting on those rights.

Where are they streaming them?
The only ones on CR are AI Tenci, War on Geminar and the streaming only recent ones.
Not to say they aren't sitting on them, but my theory has been that no one else wants to license them until they can license all of them. So there's a wait until all the shows expire.

He’s equating Sony as Crunchyroll.

Apparently they were surprised to see so much support from people overseas as if Tenchi wasn't a staple of our childhood growing up with Toonami
Tenchi Universe.was my favorite flavor of Tenchi so anything in that vein would be amazing to see. But at the same time after seeing how FLCL's revivals went I'm not entirely sold yet. I know they're kind of different series but I'll temper my excitement a bit.

Anyone have any info about this Tenchi book that is scheduled for a future release? It sounds like something I would be interested in.

As it's one of the 3 guys in Armiger that says he's writing it and now he presumably has access to people who have first hand experience in it, I would hope he's getting actual interviews done to support or update the research he had done previously. I had heard no proof that he had any such access before, so it would have just been his own research, collecting existing promotional interviews, anime magazine profiles, maybe doujinshi, etc.
And, as he associates with a group that denies the oversized influence of Kajishima on the franchise, and largely expressed extreme dislike of his work after OVA 2 (and believe Hayashi was the real creative force there), I did not have much hope for it.
But hey, now that he might actually get to actually talk with Kajishima and Negishi through an interpreter and maybe be able to get actual contact with Hayashi, Hasegawa or Kuroda , maybe there's hope.
Yet, if his original draft DID disparage Kajishima, and they now need his blessing, it could be shelved
