I like Andrzej Bartkowiak and am probably one of the very few that even likes Romeo Must Die and Cradle 2 the Grave (Jet Li and hip-hop work well for me), but this movie looks like it'll be horrible, or not very good at the most.
The cast seems so awkward. I think Kristin Kreuk is a very pretty girl, but she's no wushu-actress, not even a "Hollywood martial artist," and they're going to cast HER to be Chun-Li? Maggie Q, I could definitely see, but not Kreuk (plus I think Q could fill in that outfit a little more fully; Chun-Li's always been a bit curvy, no?). As for more anime, I doubt any major production studios would be willing to create one since the popularity isn't as high as it once was. The V TV series was okay, and I like the first Alpha movie for the most part. Now, if they made a new series, I'd like to see it be a really long version of the concept in Alpha: Ryuu being uber-strong, searching for answers through training and occasional fights, having the Dark Hadou sneaking up on him, his encounters with Gouki/Akuma, and finally how he comes to cope with his inner demon. Make it more of a man vs. self kind of struggle, as opposed to man vs. man. Forget Vega/Bison and the whole "Psycho Power for world domination" nonsense or some goofy-looking scientist that wants to harness the Dark Hadou for his evil bidding. Turn this mo-fo into a really good seinen series that focuses more on the subtle aspects of life: man's search for meaning, maybe some political/social commentary on what it means to be a street fighter compared to "normal people" living the city life, then at the end they can make some kind of resolve to either keep us thinking or just say "hm.. that'll do." It's not like the franchise ever ran on much of a story anyway aside from Vega/Bison being a major villain and incidentally the target of revenge and/or justice from people around the globe. Make up an actual plot, then throw in some really good fights in-between, and make them real violent. Not like Mortal Kombat gore, but brutal enough to shock you into some sort of realistic epiphany on why violence isn't always cool. 24-26 episodes Madhouse Director: Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Sunao Katabuchi, or Tomokazu Tokoro Music: Yoshihiro Ike, or Hayato Matsuo Artists/Animators: anyone that worked on Hajime no Ippo (for the fights and camera work), Ninja Scroll (movie) (good for dark backgrounds), and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (ink & paint) Writers: the people from Black Lagoon (mostly Second Barrage) Just throwing some ideas out there... |

Well, it looks like they at least got good locale for the shooting: South/southeast Asia/Thailand. Hopefully they'll manage a few shots of Beijing or Hong Kong to illustrate Chun-Li's Chinese roots. Kreuk is half Chinese too, maybe they'll incorporate her Asian American heritage into the character, then throw in some well-directed Mandarin or Cantonese lines for fun.
But since it's Street Fighter, it'll probably be PG-13, which means not as brutally violent as RMD or C2tG was with Corey Yuen doing the choreography. Although, he did a pretty good job with gun and fist fights in the Transporter movies. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to be listed as a choreographer in this one, but they got Dion Lam, who did a lot of work with Yuen, so maybe it won't be too bad. At least Kreuk looks hot, as usual.
Who knows. I'm sure ANN would've said something by now if they received word from someone, but nothing yet. Technically, we don't even allow threads that run on speculation of more anime because no one ever has the answer, plus it's annoying to ask "will there be more?" about a half a dozen times a week. Sorry I derailed this my live-action movie talk. Last edited by Tony K. on Thu Jul 31, 2008 7:16 pm; edited 1 time in total |

And that is why this movie might actually rake in some cash. |

Well, I guess they're making progress with the film. I am kind of optimistic of the film at this point, but I am not going to say that it will be a total failure until I actually see it. Anime wise though I would like to see 3rd Strike characters if at all possible.
