This error does seem to be effecting the whole batch. I exchanged my disc at Best Buy yesterday, and it still skips and freezes up in the exact same spots on all 5 players I've tested.

I was worried about that happening, if I wait awhile before I send my DVD into Bandai for an exchange does that mean I am less likely to get a buggy one?

In theory. But here's the account of someone who got the set from the 2nd shipping from TRSI.

I just received an email from bandai, like the others, asking for the disc. They did not answer any of my questions.

Just to make sure. This problem isn't only on the LE, its on the boxset Part 1 as well, right? because I'm gonna head to best buy next week when Black Lagoon V1 comes out and grab Code Geass as well.

Yes, it's on everything (LE, RE, singles), because they all have the same disks.

At this point, Bandai's claims have been that its a minor problem and that they don't know what the problem with the discs is. At this point, I'm assuming that sending in a defective disc will just get you another disc from the same batch, so I'm waiting until I hear from other people who sent their's in before I bother with mine.

Is there a limit for how long you can wait before Bandai will no longer except exchanged DVDs? I would think not but I just want to make sure.

I have no idea, but I figure if waiting a few weeks won't hurt.

I've NEVER received a defective disc when I sent them back a bad one(though I haven't done this for Geass as I haven't received it)

I'm reasonably sure they test a disc before sending it out

If there is, I'm sure it'll be quite a while. I was able to get one of my GitS:SAC 2nd GIG discs replaced just last month.

Just got my copy of the LE set in from TRSI... disc 1 paused a few seconds at the halfway point in episode 4, just before the eyecatch. It also paused occasionally at the beginning of episode 5, the scene of C.C. and Leouch in his room. Playback resulted in slightly different pause points, but always that scene.

Watched the disc again in another player and 2 PS2s, didn't get any errors.

disc 2 paused briefly again in the first half of episode 8, different places in 2 different DVD players (once with the Black Knights approaching the miliitary, once just before the eyecatch.) When I put it in my PS2 and ran ep 8 again, it played about 30 seconds, then jumped to Zero giving the Black Knights their hideout. (I took it out right after that.)

I'll probably contact Bandai and send the discs in a lil' later. Since I got to see them all they way through, I have more patience for a swapout that I normally would. Do you have to pay shipping for this, or does Bandai cover it?

Usually you pay for mail to shop/distributor/etc but not for return mail. You need to contact them beforehand in any case.

I don't suppose that there is some sort of batch number that we can look at to see if it will be good or bad in the store? (Before we lay down $50)

Got mine earlier today from BestBuy. Ugh, I was hoping I would be one of the few lucky ones to get a perfect copy. Disk 1 wouldn't even load even when I tried it on 2 different dvd players and my PS2. Disk 2 has skips mainly on episode 8 exactly like DuelLadyS except it was the second half of the episode. I've sent a query to BEUSA but I expect they are having many similar problems so it will take some time to reply.

I was going to go pick up Black Lagoon S2 V1 as well but they didn't have it yet so when I stop by tomorrow. I'll ask them about it.

Here is the latest from the Roberts Anime Corner newsletter.

Quote:
Some Code Geass DVD's Still Coming Up Bad

Even though we delayed shipment of all of Bandai's 8/5 titles for DVD's from a second pressing, we are still getting reports from some customers that their Code Geass DVD's are glitchy and do not play correctly. The latest speculation is that the problems may have something to do with the copy protection code that Bandai placed on the disks. Whatever the problem ultimately is that is causing the disks to not play property in certain DVD players, Bandai has chosen to implement a direct replacement program rather than a recall like they did for that big bad batch back in January. This means that even though we'd like to have been able to handle the replacements for customers directly, Bandai has decided to continue shipping the disks that they already have to retailers and handle problems as they arise directly. Fortunately Gurren Lagann Vol #2 and Zegapain Vol #6 seem to be working fine for everyone,

If you are having problems with your Code Geass DVD's (or any other recent Bandai releases), make sure to use this form to report your trouble to Bandai as soon as possible. My guess is that it will take them a few weeks to turn replacement disks around to customers.

It goes without saying that these problems are far too common in Bandai's new releases, and we sincerely hope that they take steps to improve their quality control on their new DVD releases, and the sooner the better.

I wonder, does Bandi outsource production? Hopefully they get there production problems fixed soon.

I'm still debating on whether I should get this now or not. I don't want to deal with the whole exchanging crap, but I don't want to wait so long that I have zero chance of getting the box as I much prefer having the artbox to hold the series.
