just bought the new Animerica, and read the article about "Blue Gender"- any other opinions? i think it sounds really good, but i seem to think every anime sounds good.

If you're looking forward to medium sized robots gunning the crap out of alien invaders with particular detail to alien mutilation, check this title out. I've only seen 3 episodes so far, and I like it. Reminded me a bit of Starship Troopers, and that scene in Aliens where the Sentry Guns blast the crap out of oncoming alien hordes

Its shown every week on the sci-fi channel in England and its up to about 20 episodes now.Its fairly good,the first half has loads of good action and killing but Im not a big fan of the characters,they seem about fake.From what I have watched of the second half its not as good as the first but still not bad.If you liked the description animerica gave then i would say its worth buying.I think this site has reviews of the first two volumes

Ah, another title we saw a few Otakon's ago. It was good, so we bought some dvd's. the only problem is that we have dvd 1 and 5. Best Buy keeps messing around with getting anime and stuff. THe next volume of Gatekeepers was supposed to be out in like, October, and they still haven't gotten it. Graar!

Ok, so it goes like this:
Blue Gender over here in Texas was though of one of those "underground" animes. You know the ones that are really good, but almost no one knows about. And since Funimation (the guys who licensed Blue Gender in the states) is only a 2 hour drive from here it was really cool. Anyway, we were happy and everything that no one except us 10 or so knew how awesome this anime was, and we weren't gonna tell anyone else for fear that it might turn into another DBZ obesession. Too bad when we went to A-Kon (oldest convention in the states) that Funimation showed up and decided to show Blue Gender in a theater room. Aww hell, it was over then. From then on, we've been scrounging around and fighting other people for the Blue Gender DVDs that we had missed. BUT The series itself is really cool. It has sort of a hentai tint to it, but that's overrun by the mecha and shooting and killing and death. It's very easily compared to the movie "Starship Troopers" in terms of gore and equipment and stuff, just the plot is different. But it's a good series. I would recommend it now the cat is out of the bag. |
