Ok. I generally like improvements done to this site. Most recent one was addition of "other" list which keeps user ratings from being bogged with different language ratings (which no one cares about anyway). That was a good, straightforward improvement.
I know that this "feature" I am about to mention only got "live" today but, well, it's already annoying and absolutely useless. "Find similar anime/manga based on genres & themes" was added today. Fine... was that necessary? Do we encourage laziness around here? Is it really that difficult to go to the encyclopedia page and do the said genre search? Do we really need a shortcut right in the middle of the page that does nothing but distracts most users? Oh wait, I think I'm missing something. Yes, I know! It's a "nice" feature isn't it? Who cares if only five people going to use it, it's NICE! Since I already started a thread, and since Dan42 is going to read this stuff anyway, despite his obvious dislike of someone pointing to anything that doesn't work, I took the liberty of finding another bug (it was hard to miss it actually). It is about "rate comment remove" drop down menu (or whatever you call it). I'll make it clear that I do like this feature unlike the one I mention above. The problem is in the menu. For some titles when I mouse-over the checkbox the menu causes that anime title to jump or shift (upwards). Screenshots. Take a look at the pointer position, as soon as I mouse-over it does the jump:
Same thing for DYRL (just above it). Only it jumps so high the title disappears from screen entirely. A little different happens to Suzuka. This time checkbox doesn't "light up" while it shifts:
"Jumps" do fall back and it is possible to click that evasive checkbox but it can be frustrating. I wouldn't imagine this problem to be hard to reproduce. Log in through my account and check, if it's fastest way. I am using Firefox 3.6.2 and I had this problem ever since introduction of this feature (same thing in IE 8). CLANNAD FOR LIFE!!! (shameless plug - check) |

So if you had this problem ever since the introduction of this feature why are you reporting it only now? Were you expecting it to just fix itself magically? I fixed the problem, but it was not as easy to reproduce as you imagined; if it was that easy and obvious maybe someone else would have reported it already. Depending on the content and layout of your anime list, the "rate comment remove" menu appearing would cause some row heights to change and push the current row up or down in the page. In my case I had my list set to display comments below the title so I never would've seen the problem.

Why I haven't reported it? Is being lazy a valid answer? Because well, I was. Had to find the program that captures screens with mouse pointer, take the screenshots themselves and of course write this whole thing up in a comprehensive manner (obviously if I want this fixed I had to make the problem clear). No one reported it because of the very same reason I hadn't done so sooner - people are lazy (and, as you said, lists look different, not everyone might have gotten this). Oh and by the way thank you for the fix (no sarcasm, at least not in this sentence). "Working as intended?" It sure does now.
I actually hoped you'd say something about my rant. Hmmm, not even a word of criticism of my criticism. I still question if there is any value or even purpose of adding it (beyond "because I can"). I mean we already can click on every separate genre and theme by its own so whats the point? Embracing laziness? Thats how it looks to me, because I can only wonder at what kind of idiot (ok, maybe not idiot: ignorant) person can't manage to find the "encyclopedia" button and do the said search themselves. Or did you break the fourth wall here and I am just too blind to see that? I'm very curious to find out... because if it's just a "feature" for the sake of it you might as well switch to BB3. More useless stuff, more work for you, but hey, it's new, shiny and up to date. If removing the "feature" is unlikely would you be kind enough and create an option to hide it? At very least, paint it black so it's not a "white crow" of blue in the middle of solid black (oh and adding a capital letter would improve it's looks as well). I only say what I see. Sure he might not have been in the mood but his replies to bug reports have same tone I used. (I fully expect a "grow up" reply.)

My replies to bug reports are usually "fixed". I'm not sure what tone or "dislike" you're reading in that.
As much as possible I try to avoid responding to stuff that is not worth responding to (i.e. not taking the bait). As for why I added the feature, it's a direct result of a request in this thread (oh, can't access it?) |

Hah hah. VERY funny. I guess we said, no I said, everything I wanted to. There is nothing left to discuss and I salute you for granting requests to people who are too lazy to make a few mouse clicks. Blaming me for being same as them wouldn't work(not that that you would), as I was lazy to write up a post, they are lazy to make the said few mouse clicks. |
