I recently came across this image from a Newtype article on another forum that supposedly states rumors of the development of a DTB season 3. I am not completely sure if this is accurate as I cannot read Japanese but I was just wondering does anyone know if that is what this article actually discusses? |

It's an Editor's Pick section from NewType that by the looks of it, discusses the final OAV episode video release of the Darker than Black prequel series. The article includes some shots from scenes that occur in the episode and the date of when it was released (July 21). Not sure on much else of what the dialogue says as I'm not capable of reading kana.

Oh thanks. I thought it might have mentioned stuff for a season 3(people on the other forum I go to mentioned it), but I guess they were wrong.

From what I've heard, it mentions the possibility that the DTB franchise may continue in some form or other. The director apparently stated in an interview that he's done with the series, but the ending of S2 begs to differ.

I hope there will be a season 3, because the last season was too short and ending is not so explained.

Can you give us a link of that interview? I have read a translation of a passage he states that he believes spoiler[Yin is "very dead"], but besides that. From what I've seen so far he's acted very indirect about it (perhaps not in the interview); heck even the ending left a massive door open with humanity's technology progressing rapidly and Rambo telling Kirihara spoiler["this is just the beginning"]. Even the episode count points to another season.
A third season would profit (look at its popularity after just 3 years), so that's one of the biggest obstacles out of the way. |

I would be very happy to see this come true, though I never finished the second season because the show seemed to go off in a different direction a 3rd season would give me motivation to solider on (after all I did love the original so so much)!

well after the abomination that was the second season I really hope not. I loved season 1 but the 2nd season just bored me to death.

If there is a season 3 coming out due to that rumor, I will greatly look forward to it. But since it is not confirmed yet, I'll just pretend season 2 never happened. But even if a season 3 never comes out, the manga adaption of DTB that serves as a decent season 2 replacement is a better sequel, so far.

I actually liked season 2. It seamed a bit rushed, but it still had most of the qualities I liked about the first. Just with...magical girls (a magical girl really, but whose counting?).

personally I think they should have ended the anime with season one. In general, from what I've seen, sequels are just getting worst.

darker than black fanboy powers activate!
There is nothing intrinsically bad about sequels, they don't HAVE to get worse and worse. I believe in BONES and dammit I believe in the anime industry, they just need to make a squeal (direct or spiritual) that adheres to the same themes of loss, brutal unfeeling darkness, and redemption. I will be the first to admit that season 2 was a but of a hick-up, the creators got confused and thought what made the show great was magical powers instead of good writing, but I will solder on and I will keep believing |

Her transformation could be considered a magical girl transformation, yes. But what part of a contractor wielding a weapon and acting contractor like makes her a magical girl?
Of course. Never mind that ANN's best rated anime is a sequel. But guess what's the best thing about sequels... the fact that you aren't forced to watch it! Liked the ending of the prequel and are pretty satisfied with it? Say no further. |
