I will check this one out. Even though I can see the twist a mile away.
It is pretty obvious to me. The main character died and he is an antroid with his memory when he was alive.

Well, to me the twist is obviously that he was "fixed" (healed bullet wounds) and she downloaded herself into an android body before the apocalypse happened and she died. We'll see which one it is...BTW, it seems no sooner had I posted saying this show could be likable that the reviewers posted how they hated it in the Preview Guide. Oh well, still watching...

Welp, I don't think I'm going to like this show as much I hoped I would. I don't hate it (kind of a theme for me this fall thus far), but there's something of an apocalypse-lite vibe going even if there is an organization called Orwell and there are examples of sadistic guards and people being shipped in train cars and all that. When the one baddie stuck his tongue out and started cackling and making maniacal shrieks over the looming death of the lead and the precocious lil cutie, it just seemed strange after the scenes that preceded it and the artistic presentation. When the hooded savior arrived with stirring, inspirational electronic rescue music, it seemed even more weird, almost light hearted. The whole thing just seemed to lurch unevenly from one extreme to the other to me.
But y'know, I like my apocalyptic explorations a little more melancholy, ironic, and subtle. Girl's Last Tour. Kaina of the Great Snow. Kino's Journey Wind Called Amnesia...
So maybe I'm being an inflexible poophead here.

Yeah, theres tone issues for sure on multiple levels (the villagers were somewhat realistically sketched then the villains were just guzzling down the scenery).
I also really suspect this show has a message about technology, but its painting one side so over the top evil and stupid that I just don't think I can take this seriously. Shows can have a side, point and message but when you tilt the field too far it just becomes an uninteresting lecture. Well, so I forsee.

Episode 1
Yeah, this is more brutal than I thought it would be. That was a truly ridiculous villain but it is a measure of my immaturity that I still enjoyed his comeuppance. I'm still liking this show because there is a certain specificity to this particular post-apocalypse that I'm digging, but my expectations have been suitably lowered.

Bang your android sister, dude. You can save the show. You have the power to do it. Just bang your android sister. Because none of the rest of this is going to carry the show. Do you have what it takes to save your world from destruction? Do you have the strength of character to do the right thing, even when the world seems to be trying to get you to pointlessly fight the evil overlord organization? It doesn't matter if she cuts your dick to ribbons, or vaporizes your testicles with a giant heat beam. Just bang your android sister.

Ep1- Well, this is an android apocalypse story I can get behind! Wasn't taken with Vivy Flourite and the writer here has made some attempt to imagine a world at least a little creatively different. Still, science magic detracts some but a genki android girl who kicks combined with good action and uncommonly good artwork makes this a winner for me at least. And we will see more genki android girls as antagonists to come...

I don't know if I should raise a cigarette lighter and wave it back and forth in appreciation or to burn this post down

I don't know about something we need to put in spoilers. It kind of seems less likely that he is alive as a human after all the time, rather than that he is probably an android now. He wasn't able to understand the dad and daughter when they showed up, and then after some sort of transition he started being able to, which feels like there needs to be technology elements he isn't recognising in himself.
I would think that if he is human, as per tropes he would be wet or evidence of being frozen to imply organic stasis.
I watched both of the first episodes, and I thought it was funny that 2039 if anything doesn't feel like soon enough for controversy with AI.

We saw Akira eat. I considered the possibility he was an android after episode 0 but what pulled me towards thinking he's still human was the fact he has three bullet holes on his back but only one on his front.
if he's an android, the person who designed him was insane. "These two bullets went into him but were then removed, this third one went right through, it's a very important detail to replicate."
The language translation transition? AI implant with a Babel fish ap, I could build th app myself if not the interface, it's not hard. They also had just introduced them in episode 0.
I'm still thinking the android is Towasa's AI.
I don't know if Akira made the connection between elsee and Towasa's LC. For me, it's the most problematic part.

I was thinking the same thing. His bullet wounds are a very obvious contradiction to any theory about him being an android, so I don't see why anyone would even assert he is.

That sounds like the most likely explanation, but it's pretty improbable unless that software is constantly getting updated. With how little has been established about the setting's tech, though, anything is up in the air.

They do share Ishikawa Yui's voice, so I'd imagine either she is indeed that AI or she's a later version of it.

He very much did; that's why he had that flashback to Towasa talking about it.

I'd say the show confirmed he did make that connection because afterwards he is musing about "elsee" and has a flashback to reading about Towasa's "LC Project" and discussing it with her. Plus, in Ep0 he was present when she announced what it was and that it meant Life Companion, which is what the ceremony he witnessed institutes among "consenting adults"...
If he had an LC AI implant installed, that would explain the lag in understanding the new language as the AI is processing what I'd bet are similarities to existing languages in the region...I also think the team is making the villagers "ethnic" i.e. non-Japanese so the language might be related to Ainu because they are in Hokkaido...A plot hole I see is if there are al these modern buildings around, likely with modern technology, why does no one inhabit them or we see anything other than the tractor? Or is that due to OWEL?

It's a shame he didn't bang his android sister. It would have saved that girl's book. As noted above, he really needs to bang his android sister.

Ep2- Where Yugure excitedly informs Akira that she has "those" functions that allow him to bang her! So timeline is 2039 19-year old Towasa gets shot, 2057 records farewell current date 2257 if Yugure is to be believed and she was created 2107 (?) so Towasa was 87....and my current theory that she downloaded herself into Yugure remains unchanged. On a random note, I keep thinking OWEL="Oh, Well..." and Yugure should worry about Amoru wearing so few clothes and being so expressive around Akira unless she will settle for a "thrupple" LC...

OK, I restate my problem with elsee:LC: Akira is not connecting Towasa's proposed societal change with the changed society he is in.
To spell everything out... I don't think Towasa is in Yoguru, I think she's the villain. Or seeing how we've seen three androids with her face, someone made her into the literal face of OWEL. I guess the using letters as names thing works better in Japanese; I don't think it's "Oh well", I'm thinking "O L"
Episode 2
Amuro.... I like her as a character but I have no idea how to mesh her appearance and her supposed age. She could be the same age as Akira but going by the throuple in the ending.. I don't know. She's 4 years younger?
She's not very tall and she doesn't wear a lot of clothes. Being called a brat carrying around a picture book doesn't help.
Seeing death in her eyes as her book burns makes me think she's older than that though.
