Oh my god. I cried like a baby when I saw this last night. Not because of spoiler[Julia dying,] but because of that very last shot, the one that says spoiler[You're Gonna Carry That Weight]. That's when it really hit me that it was over and nobody who'd died was coming back.

Additionally: Julia. Annoyed. The. Heck. Outta. Me. I don't know why. I'm not going to say I hate her because she doesn't deserve Spike. It's just - I like Faye way more. At least she had a personality.

What did you guys think?

The fun thing about Julia is that she defines the idea of "femme fatale" utterly and completely, far more so than Faye ever could. I can't say that she annoys me in the least, at least partly because we really don't know all that much about her. And it's really not important that we don't, as her greater purpose is what she represents to Spike over the course of the show. Faye herself said it best when describing Julia to Jet: "Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone."

And what's amazed me most about Bebop over the years is how even hearing certain songs from the soundtrack can bring tears to my eyes, since I know exactly what they represent. "Blue" is certainly chief among these. I've still never come across a piece of entertainment with an ending that's so horribly unavoidable yet completely appropriate, and I don't think I ever will.

Cowboy Bebop was what really opened up anime as a genre to me. Until then, anime was either DBZ or really obscure sci-fi titles. Hence it's always my favorite anime and the box set sits proudly on my shelf next to the movie.

That ending probably left a big impression on a lot of people. Many of us had never seen anything like it in an anime at that point.

That show is pretty deep man.

I'm going to have to watch the ending again, wait around for it somewhere. Hmmm I remember feeling emotional during the 1st time I watched it.

Spoken like a true fan. I listened to the Bebop OSTs pretty much exclusively for at least a couple of years and Blue still has the power to choke me up and make me misty-eyed.

Last night, just before the showing of Sword of the Stranger, there was a guy playing music on some small speakers hooked up to his iPod. The sound carried well in the theater. When he played Tank! the audience cheered. =0)

Bebop is what made a fan out of me too. I've watched a lot of stuff since then - some of it real good, some not so good, some that maybe was a bit better in some respects - but there hasn't been anything that can hold a candle to the all around, from every angle, excellence that is Cowboy Bebop. After all, it's destined to become a genera in itself, eh?

That would be the perfect statement if you had replaced "Many of us" with "Nobody" and then ended it with "or since". =0)

Yeah, it's one of those rare shows that're pretty much universally loved. I only got around to watching it last year when the cheap box set came out, well after becoming an anime fan, and it still easily made my top ten.

Totally agree about the ending too, right up there with Planetes and Texhnolyze.

Cowboy Bebop is my favorite anime. There's not a thing about it that I don't like. The story is amazing, the art is amazing, the OST is amazing, the directing is amazing, and the dub is amazing.

I have to say that I like the ending allot. It really brought the whole series full circle, which is nice. I also have to say that I liked Julia, she played her purpose well in the series. The reason that she seemed to have little characteristics is the fact that she was suppose to be a "mysterious person". And she left in that manner as well.

I think that this anime is the classic "gateway drug" anime.

(No, THERE a wolf)

I was trying to avoid hyperbole, but yeah, CB's ending is one of the best endings ever. Shame that it never got anywhere near as popular in its home country. Actually it's kind of nice. That makes it special!

Yup. The likes of Cowboy Bebop and Trigun are pretty obscure titles over there these days, whereas here they are landmark series. Heck, Pirates of the Caribbean is more popular in Japan.

My God! What's next? Please don't tell me that they really like Jerry Lewis. Laughing

Actually, Cowboy Bebop was somewhat popular in Japan, too. It was plenty popular enough to spawn a movie production. In 2006, a TV Asashi poll had it ranked #40 in Japan's favorite television anime. Sure, it's not quite as popular as it seems to be in the U.S., but I'll bet it will stand the test of time better than most of the anime we see today.

Yeah, it's always been my understanding that Cowboy Bebop was pretty well received in Japan. It may not have been quite a big of series as it's seen over here (by anime fans) but it was still big. At least it was popular enough to get a movie and two manga series.

Cowboy Bebop was really enjoyed in Japan, but it wasn't the phenomenon over there as it was in the American otaku industry. Cowboy Bebop is a show that I really loved. The ending of Cowboy Bebop ranks up as my second all time favorite ending (the only anime to top its ending was the End of Evangelion).

Yeah, it would have to have a substantial following to warrant a movie or manga spinoffs. When they're constantly turning out new Gundams, Pretty Cures, Narutos, One Pieces and associated merchandise, it tends to get lost pretty easily in the crowd.
