Hello! As you can see, I'm new here and even though I was born in North America, my English grammar isn't that great, so I hope you guys can bear with me! Also, I'm quite new to the concept of anime so bear with me if some of my questions are a little dumb.
Anyways, over the months of searching for anime on the Web, I've noticed that all of the adult anime always tend to have something to do with sex in them, so I was wondering, why do they have to have all these sexual situations in them and are there any anime out there with an adult rating that doesn't have anything to do with sex? |

Generally when something's branded as "adult" it's because of its content rather than audience. And by American standards, sex = only for adults.

For example, Gundam SEED series is one of the teenagers anime. But I believe many adult can enjoy it because it has many problem about discrimination, genetic engineering, clone and so on. I think you can enjoy this anime for adults.

Pepperidge is right, "adult" anime usually means anime whose content is very sexual (okay, pornographic) in nature. The purpose of adult anime is the sexual content so you probably won't find any that doesn't have it. I think maybe what you're looking for is "mature" anime, which generally means anime aimed at an older audience. There are plenty of series that are intended and rated for older teens and adults that have little or no sex at all. |

But in a sense there is a ton of "anime" that has mature topics and the like. What about the sexual overtones in the average anime? How many times do I have to see girls in schoolgirls outfits with skirts that leave nothing to the imagination? I mean even in InuYasha Kagome wears barely nothing, and that show is by no means sexual. I'm talking about the average anime now, not the ecchi/hentai/"mature" stuff. I just attribute it as, "it is what it is".

kk: If by "adult rating" you're referring to anime aimed at mature audiences, then yes, some titles that would be considered "mature" but doesn't include sex are out there, though you have to really look for them in the American market.
The movies Millenium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers are great examples of such titles. So is the series Paranoia Agent, which has a little bit of sex and nudity but not much and nothing hard-core. (Perhaps not surprisingly, all three are from the same director.) Jin-Roh is definitely a mature story and doesn't have any sex or nudity, but it's pretty graphically violent in a few places. Texhnolyze also definitely favors more mature audiences, though it is quite graphically violent and has a little bit of sex and nudity. Those would be good for a start if you're looking for "adult=mature" anime which has little or nothing to do with sex. |

Actually, SEED, just like the other Gundam series, are aimed at kids in Japan. But over here, they're teen animes because of the content. |

Unless your watching hello kitty your going to have fanservice in ANY anime rated teen and up so i'd get used to it if your planning on sticking with this genre of entertainment.

Yeah, inspite what every one else has satated, which is "those aren't meant for you" kind of things, sex in anime is there beacuse "sex sells." Just about every movie today, anime or not, has some sort of sexual tention.

Why are you looking for Adult anime? Try a variety.
Eva, Azumanga Daioh, Oh my Goddess, GTO (don't bother with the Dub, it's awful), Najica Blitz Tactics, Planetes and Nadesico are all great series, none of which have sex in them, though Najica has lots of Fanservice. I could make this list bigger, but where do I stop! There's just so much good anime - most of which isn't Adult. Good luck on your Anime Quest

GTO is barely adult. It is a shounen, after all.
Teens are kids. Of course, it would be mostly younger teens.

Lol in any anime that you will buy there will always be a sexual topic and you guys all know this. The fact that every single movie has some sexual content in it. Well except the movies for like the really young kids... Besides dont we all want to sometimes see some school girl dress or nice paties on some sexy hardcore charecter that either makes us laught or beats the living !@#$ out of bad guys..

I'm actually not looking for adult anime. It's just that I've seen lots of images of mature animes that always have something to do with sex in them so I was wondering if there are any mature animes out there that didn't have anything to do with sex. I have no interest in adult animes with sex in them. Anyways, thanks for the replies so far guys. I'll try to look for some variety, but I don't get much anime where I live so I'm thankful for what I can get, which is mainly Dragonball Z. |
