While entering credits of director / screenwriter Masashi Ikeda for new Votoms I found something suspicious: a title without vintage called Night Warriors. Lacking Japanese title, full English staff but no licensing company (although Udon was mentioned in the news), and somewhat "Americanized" DVD cover art, told me this was a pre-millennium title. By searching its staff it turned out to be an alias of Capcom's game-adapted Vampire Hunter.

I'm not familiar with the series (game or anime) and its multi-name releases in North America. Furthermore, the existing picture of #1034 looks like a promotional poster; unfortunately it was an old submission (more than seven years ago) and had no record of its sources for authenticity. Google image search returned mostly the cover art of episode 1, the same one #184 has right now. Thoughts?

Well, here's my thought process looking at the image for #184:

It has DVD and Pioneer logos so it is pre-Geneon and was released on DVD.
That's Morrigan on the cover, a character I recognise from fanart etc., but don't know much about other than that she's from Darkstalkers.
The full title is "Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge - The Animated Series"
The other logos on the cover are "Viz Video" and "DVD Special Collection ALPHA".

Wikipedia says: "Darkstalkers, known in Japan and Asia as Vampire (ヴァンパイア) and in some European releases as Vampire Hunter, is a series of 2D fighting games produced by Capcom during the mid-1990s", further down is Sega Saturn cover art for a game of the same name and it says under related media that "A four-episode OVA anime series was released, titled Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge (Vampire Hunter: The Animated Series in Japan). Viz produced an English adaptation that was released in North America."

Googling gets me to this page on the Viz site where they have four episodes on two DVDs, Alpha and Omega - the former of which basically matches what we have.

One of the alt titles for #1034 is "Night Warriors - Darkstalkers' Revenge". The current artwork there looks like game promotional art but one of the hidden images is that of the Omega DVD.

Allcinema has "Vampire Hunter the Animated Series" as a 4-episode OVA with an alt title of "Night Warriors: Darkstalker's Revenge"
Japanese Wikipedia again confirms the existence of a single 4-episode OVA, also mentioning the American TV series.

I'm pretty confident that Vampire Hunter and Night Warriors are the same franchise and that since there is only one OVA series in this franchise and they share basically the same staff and cast that these two titles are one and the same.

I have a copy of Viz's release of the OAV series, if you need me to look something up.

Eh, I'm pretty sure about that too, particularly after seeing the cover art of VHS 1 & 4. Anime catgrin + sweatdrop What made me hesitated was 1) choosing a proper way for the merger and 2) finding a fitting picture.

I'm not sure exactly how merging titles works. Since #1034 has the most details I assume it will involve checking for sources on any credits on #184 that aren't currently on #1034 and moving/manually adding them.

Tineye is working now (wasn't yesterday) and there are lots of hits for the Vampire Hunter artwork, mostly from games sites, but including this:

which is box art for a game called Vampire Saviour, which according to Wikipedia is the sequel to the Darkstalkers' Revenge game. Assuming that the OVA is connected to the game of the same name, this artwork is incorrect.

Again from tineye, here's a slightly larger copy of the existing cover artwork we have for Nght Warriors, but from the "perfect collection" which has less text:
[edit]apparently that was a bootleg site so: http://yfrog.com/mjnightwarriorj
and here's a cropped version of the same artwork which is smaller but square and without the text from a page on the Capcom site itself:

Wow thanks a lot; I've removed the picture. Now the only matter remains would be whether #184 should be merged into #1034 or the other way around.

Update: all done. Please check #1034 out to see if there's anything not done yet. Thanks a lot, guys.
