The Unlimited - Hyōbu Kyōsuke (TV)

Original announcement of Zettai Karen Children spinoff.

Plot summary (so far):

Hyōbu is the P.A.N.D.R.A leader who wants people with ESP powers like himself to wipe out the "Normals."

interesting first episode. the animation is nice the characters look like they will be fleshed out and there's some story to keep us interested.

Episode 1

*watches opening scene* Please don't let this be our main character, he is a merciless monster.

It looks like I am going to dislike this in a way similar to K and Code;Breaker, we are meant to like the guy because he can be so cool with his powers, and thnk that he is misnderstood or something in killing bad people. And he is given a moe pet (which has its own moe pet) to think of him as having a soft spot, which really felt as frustratingly manipulative as it did in K.

I probably should just stop as I am not familiar with what this is a spin off of, and have little interest in starting. I did not like the other main character as it just looked like they made him a screw up for us to sympathise with him, but the bit at the end made him intersting.

For the record, he's the villain of the other work. This is explicitly a story starring the villain. He's the Magneto of their X-Men.

I didn't even realize that this was a spin-off another series until I saw it mentioned in this thread. Guess this means that I'll have to watch the series that this is based off of.

Same, and I had enough to watch as is. After taking a brief look at the ANN page for it: I think I will enjoy this more than the parent anime.

I haven't seen the original series yet but this first episode was okay for me. It definitely gave me some Code:Breaker vibes but otherwise, I am surprised that I actually enjoyed parts of it, even the OP song.

Going to continue to see how well this series develops.

I think having seen the first series might actually be a detriment in this case. The first series had a very different tone. To put in in a nutshell, the first series downplayed the more serious or violent elements of the setting and story, while this one looks like it's going to emphasize them (too much maybe, given the inherent silliness of the first episode throwaway villain). While the manga they're both based on lies halfway between, jumping directly from one anime series to the other would probably be jarring.
