Ok people, what side are you on in this on going war? Personally, I prefer dubbed. There are times when the japanese voices just get too damn annoying for me to even conider watching anymore. Like when a character's voice is way too deep for their age, or when a girl is so high pitched, she can break glass with her voice. I know that there are a ton of american voice actors that are as bad if not worst but with the anime influx of the past couple of years, american voice actors have had to get better. Alot of you are going to bring up Once Piece and your valid in doing so. I just want to know how many of you are on what side and your reasons for your preference.

It's not a War... not even a cat fight Very Happy

It's an Opinion......and everyone has one.

My opinion is my own, and I will not force anyone to agree with it.....even if you are wrong. Anime exclamation

I like both *shrugs*

It just depends. If a good dub is available and appropriate, I prefer that. If not, I like subs too.

Prefer dub if the dub is done well, I find the lack of range of most japanese VA's annoying at any rate. It's all a matter of opinion though, I can understand both sides but for me I just enjoy a show more if the characters are speaking in my own language. Ultimately, after all, I'm watching for entertainment and if I enjoy it more one way then all the better.

Dubs will forever dominate in America and anywhere else besides japan because even though they cut out some of the vile and vulgar stuff, which is the down side, they make it up by enhancing the graphics and making audio stuff. I've seen subs and i like them to, but I perfer dubs better because subs have subtitles. The characters speak so fast that i have to keep on rewinding it to get every last detail.

Same here.

I prefer and always watch subbed the first time around when I can. Then when I have time, I'll re-watch the series in dub. Most dubs turn me off and I'm a purist so I have to watch the anime the way it was intended, so I watch it in the original language.

I prefer subs. There are several dubs I like a lot, but I rarely prefer them nowadays when watching anime by myself. I usually listen to dubs when I'm around friends, but I like the exotic appeal that Japanese tracks have (since I live in the U.S and hear English enough already Razz).

The reading part doesn't bother me, as I read pretty fast, though there have been a few sub overlays that've nearly confused the heck out of me such as Excel Saga or Kare Kano. I also like to think reading the subs prevents dyslexia, as I don't read too much aside from subtitles, though I have started to collect manga now as well.

And one thing I'd like to point out to the purists (with no offence intended), but unless you actually understand Japanese and can view the title without the aid of subs, then that is how the creators intended it. Otherwise, I think "listen to it the way they intended" is a better choice of words.

Of course there is also the argument for those of you who prefer dubs in saying that they're intended to be American adaptations, and that they're doing their best to try and carry everything over, only in your native language.

That's a good argument too, but as mentioned already, it ultimately is just a preference, and that those opinions should be respected, not forced, onto others.

EDIT: Fixed some spelling.

I guess I'm pretty much the same as Snowfairy, except I just watch a show subbed first for the hell of it. I don't really believe in that whole "watching it the way it was intended" or "watching it in its original language" thing because I need a translation anyway, and if I wanted to watch it in its original language, as it was intended, I would watch it raw (which I can't since I don't speak Japanese).

And here goes my opinion.
*wow wheres the sUbS supporters?*
Anyway, I had a lil balance (meaning I felt nuetral about it) just a lil while ago. But then I dont know I think the subs are coming off better to me again. BUt not a big diffrence.
But I like subs becuase its the original. With the original voicces and everything. Untouched, unedited, nothing is remade. Its all real (well the animation is).
And while watching you can pick up a couple of new Japanese words/phrases. and it comes out faster in subs. You have to wait YEARS for your favorite anime to come out dubbed on tv.

Why I like dubs- well they started my anime world. My first animes was Sailor Moon, DBZ, and Gundum dubbed. Plus, it is sorta getting better, but the voices still irk me a little. But all in all, its no where better then subs in my book right now. I dont have to anticipate the downloads either =T

Why I dislike it- Some voices are way annoying. Some does not fit there age. And theres so much editing that goes on now and days. Less blood, less nudity, etc. And theres nothing new I can learn from it. Except maybe expanding my "imagination" or whatever. But, its just not the same. I probobly just got used to subs, who knows.?

No offense taken. I actually wouldn't watch anime in raw japanese the first time around since I don't understand too much of the language, but I would consider doing that one of these days just for the heck of it. Listening to the way it was intended probably would have been a better choice of words.

Must resist posting...must not get sucked into this debate...must...Oh hell, why not? I'm a sub fan. I have my favorite seiyuu, and I like having to investigate the cultural aspects that elude me on the first viewing. But in all honesty, if it were not for dubs, I most likely would not be watching anime at all. I was introduced to Japanese animation via dubs and really can't fault anyone for watching them.

I tend to like subbing, just because dubbing is USUALLY (not always) bad... and I guess I'm just used to the Japanese voices instead of American ones... also i think the Japanese voices also helps the flow of the story i dunno why. but that'sjust my two cents.
