YES THAT'S RIGHT!!!

From animeondvd

"Viz also confirmed that they will be finishing Tezuka Osamu's Phoenix. After they commented about this, they also asked the audience if they would like a presentation similar to Vertical's Buddha. However the audience did not receive that well; favoring the current format."

HOORAY!!!
Viz pulling off some good moves recently Surprised.

P.S School Rumble got lisenced by Del Rey which is sure to make alot of people happy but that's for another topic Wink.

Holy freakin' crap, Viz actually told the fans what they're doing! Now if only they'd do the same for No.5 (seriously, at least have the common courtesy/balls to tell the fans your cancelling something).
But that's really great news about Phoenix. I was scared for a while there, but it looks like we can all rest easy. Some of Viz's recent decisions show that they haven't totally abandoned Editor's Choice titles, and that's much appriciated.
By the way, is that School Rumble that everyone seems to be obsessed about any good?

BANZAI! I was really looking forward to reading that, but decided not to unless they finished it (I'm a completist...). Yay! Now I have a reason to! It's looked like the Osamu Tezuka work I would like most by far. Shame that the audience didn't go for the Buddha format though, it would have been nice to have it in hardcover, price issues aside.. And didn't Viz's format feature it flipped? Confused

I read a bit of school rumble and its a pretty funny school comedy based on a triangular romance situation (she likes him but he doesnt notice and some other dude likes her yadda yadda) but what I was pleasantly surprised with was how the mangaka does not resort to cheap fanservice tactics which is usually associated with the genre, but instead sticks to the characters and the humor.

School rumble (I seen bits of the animeanime) was terrible for me. Not sure why it's so popular, idiotic generic story line which rely on cuteness seem to be popular among the kids.

It's very cliche with crappy unrealistic character with unrealistic behavior. Not sure how much different the manga is, but from my first impression, it's a standard crappy title. The comedy itself is a hit or miss with people. Many people compare it to Azumanga, which is a crappy manga/anime in my opinion. The character are very cute or so why a lot of people like it. Wink

milcor: Finally! I'd heard that they were only committed to the first 5 books, since they were already translated by Schodt in his college days. I can't wait for more installments.

P.S. The audience is stupid. Vertical's productions are top-notch.

Dranxis: Technically, it's still "open-ended", since Tezuka died before he could finish it. Also, each story's self-contained.

Ah, well, it doesn't hurt it then if each story was self-contained. Mermaid Saga was so open-ended that Rumiko-fans considered it unfinished, but since the stories were independent it didn't really diminish the story.

I've tried explaining that 25 bucks for a 400-page, high quality hardcover is an amazing deal, but most fans just don't get it. Oh well, their loss...

No doubt it's steep enough to make me want to wait for the Buddha TPBs, but I agree that it's a good deal. And if Viz did it that way for Phoenix, I'd go for it. The only reason I'm not hurrying on Buddha is that most of the historical background is common knowledge.
