Is that supposed to be two episodes, not one {7,8)? Otherwise, the special features are attacking the main feature and winning.
It's a great show, it would have been nice if the production studio put as much effort into the show as they did the extra stuff. Maybe they wouldn't have run into problems?
I could see how Chobits had three clip shows and I understand why Wolf's Rain had four but even Air only went with the one; Not that I understood why there was one exactly.

Of course it is two episodes plus the OVA, plus the drama audio and still picture only features, plus booklets, plus cards, plus, plus, plus! Great packages!
Can't wait until the 24th! And for volumes 5 and 6!!!

What? The anime itself is one of the better made anime production wise in the recent season. In fact, the OVA specials have objectively worse/simipler animation than the actual episodes despite being shorter (the Panzer IV in Water and Survival War being a sloppy hand-drawn thing instead of the detailed 3D model).
The only reason the anime needed two recap episodes during its run was because the studio ran into production problems, and so had to make the recaps to fill up timeslots.
