That's kind of funny. I wonder if it will make the show better.

I wasn't terribly impressed. I am a HUGE fan of shorts (recent purchases include Teekyuu and Wooser) and shows like Yama no Susume have really raised the bar. Aiura looks great too. I was looking forward to Sparrow's Hotel but the art is not great.

Odd though, as the anime is supposed to be an advertisement for the original material and its own sales. Now they're going to redo the art and animation for the DVD sales? I sure hope they going to show PVs of what the DVDs will really look like. Still not sure I'd buy them...

Episode 2's content was a lot better than episode 1's though, so... There's that at least.

I haven't seen this, but what sort of cost must there be on "completely new art"? It must be considerable, surely?

For a short it is not a lot of time as they are just minutes per episode, like one episode of a full length anime. Still, it is like redoing much if not all the art and animation by the sounds of it so doubling some portion of the production costs.

SHAFT and a few other studios probably incur the same extra expense, even without changing character designs, by combing through all the animation again for the video release

I didn't mind the art, so much as episode one felt like they attempted to squeeze 23 minutes of jokes in a 3 minute anime, then realized their mistake, and instead took out any kind of plot that may have connected the jokes.

Episode 2 was better. They slowed down a bit.

Ever watch Teekyuu? Now that's 23 minutes of jokes turned into 2 minutes of Japanese chipmunks... but good and really funny! The BD has an 18 minute version of all 12 episodes minus OP/ED in one go and it is quite something to behold...

Sorry about bumping an old topic, but it looks like we now know how the art will be redone in the DVD version:

They totally made it look like a 2000s anime now.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I like the original as well. Why do they do this? Are they that short of work? Rolling Eyes
