There's an anime called Vampire Princess Miyu. Haven't seen it myself, but I hear good things about it.

Then there's Blood: The Last Vampire. It's a pretty cool action movie, but it suffers from lack of back story, and it has almost nothing to do with vampires. There's hints that the girl with the sword is a vampire but she doesn't do anything speacial to really show it though.

Vampire Princess Miyu is a somewhat more somber take on vampires, telling the story of a mysterious vampire named Miyu. The OVA has a really fantastic, creepy mood and very nice art. It's not as action-driven as Hellsing or the Vampire Hunter D films, but it makes up for it with good storytelling and genuine creepiness. There's also a TV series, but it's not nearly as good.

Also, if you liked Blood: The Last Vampire, you might want to check out Blood +, a retelling with the same characters (but not nearly as nice art as the movie, in my opinion).

Lunar Legend Tsukihime has vampired... kinda... its weird.

The only other vampire anime I've seen, besides the ones listed, would be the original Vampire Hunter D. The animation is a little dated, but it's really good.

If you enjoyed the hellsing anime, then you should most definately check out the manga. Its 47.923 times better. Even if manga isn't your thing, its worth it. ANd then of course there's the new hellsing OVA.

Hellsing is still the best, but you may want to check out Trinity Blood for something similar (uber vampire that drinks other vampire's blood but has a Vash-like personality.)

Also I must say I really like Blood+, mostly however due to how well it gets this Resident Evil vibe going. Its not really a vampire so much as a monster show, but it beats the tar out of the movie and most normal vampire shows.

Well, it's not dark, bloody, or gothic at all, but my favorite vampire anime these days is Karin, because it's very cute and very different from most other vampire anime. No stakes, guns, or religion here, just a bit of high school romance/comedy centering around the title character, who is a different sort of vampire.

I second (or third?) Trinity Blood. My brother's really into that one right now, and I'll be getting into it when I get the chance to acquire some episodes and watch them. I only watched a couple episodes when my brother had them, so I only got a glimpse at the interesting characters involved--and yeah, the main protagonist is similar to Vash in that he can leap from serious to silly in a split second (I love that, haha).

I also second (or third?) Blood+ since you've watched the short film that's connected to it. I again haven't seen this one, but I hear that it's worth a look.

I liked Vampire Princess Miyu. There were some scenes where I actually got bumps. It's got surprises around the corner in some areas, which sometimes I think we all need a good jump once in a while. The demons are cool looking also. Fancy comparison to Sailor Moon (the demons).

The puppet episode of the Miyu OAV is one of the creepiest things I've een on tv. The other three episodes are also worth watching. The little mascot character in the Miyu tv series was most annoying, and the atmosphere lacks the elegance of the OAV. The main villain in Jojo's Bizzare Adventure is also a vampire. The 13 part OAV series centers around the final showdown.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX has a vampire in it for some reason, but you may as well slam your head in your own car door, because otherwise you'll never learn.

I also forgot about an anime just being aired called Karen. It's a show about a vampire who injects blood into her victims instead of sucking it out of them. She's some kind of weird mutant vampire that makes blood. The show's intro makes it look like a porno and the main character is kind of annoying, but it's a pretty cute series so far.

I saw the first episode of the new Hellsing OVA. It's probably the best vampire-based anime I've ever seen. Blood, violence, gore, and even a bit of humor. What more can you ask for?

I gotta agree with you there, the best is still to come if the old OVA is any indication.

Anyways, here's a breakdown of the various vampire series for people who don't know about them:

Hellsing: My favorite vampire series, blood, gore, monsters, gun figths, explosions and senseless violence. Alucard is one of the most badass characters out there. This series also has its fair share of humor.

Vampire Hunter D: Two movies, lots of blood and violence, most notably mutants get cut into bits. The story behind it is pretty cool as D's roots are revealed.

Blood: the last vampire and blood+: Are these two somehow connected? The general setup and enemy monsters are very similar.

Blood Trinity: This is basicly a cold war between a human and a vampire nation (the vampires are actually alien in origin). A third faction is actually behind the scenes of all of it (won't reveal anything more). The main character, Abel, is pretty much a Vash the Stampede ripoff though.

In addition to the titles already mentioned in this thread, I'd say Nightwalker is worth a look considering it's twelve episodes and you can get it for as little as $3.99 for the complete series if you look in the right places. And for it's cheap price, it's still pretty good.
