Since the front page has news on Viz release in August, I thought I share what DH is putting out in June.

Quote:
AMANO: THE TALE OF GENJI HC ILLUSTRATED NOVEL

YOSHITAKA AMANO (W/A)
On sale 26, FC & b&w, 80pg, 8 7/16" x 11 15/16", 46 color illustrations, $24.95

Yoshitaka Amano has been praised around the world for his lush watercolors and evocative work dealing with myth and legend. In The Tale of Genji, Mr. Amano brings his considerable talent to retelling one of the most famous of Japanese myths: written by Murasaki Shikibu shortly after 1000 AD and considered by most scholars to be the first novel ever written, the Tale of Genji is the story of the romantic adventures of Genji, the amazingly handsome prince and his many romantic conquests. Told through stunning paintings, Mr. Amano brings this classic story to life for a new generation.

* As one of the most respected stories of all time, The Tale of Genji holds a worldwide place of honor among lovers of myth and legend.
* Will appeal to the legions of Vampire Hunter D fans worldwide, as well as fans of his work on Sandman (written by New York Times-bestselling author Neil Gaiman) and Wolverine (with award-winning author Greg Rucka).

OLD BOY VOLUME 1 TPB

GARON TSUCHIYA (W) and NOBUAKI MINEGISHI (A)
On sale July 5, SC, 208pg, b&w, 5 1/8" x 7 1/4", $10.95

Ten years ago, they took him. He doesn’t know who. For ten years he has been confined in a private prison. He doesn’t know why. For ten years his only contact with the outside world has been a television set and the voices of his jailers. In time, he lost himself. He changed . . . transformed himself into something else . . . something hard . . . something lethal. Suddenly one day, his incarceration ends, again without explanation. He is sedated, stuffed inside a trunk, and dumped in a park. When he awakes, he is free to reclaim what’s left of his life . . . and what’s left is revenge.

* Old Boy is an intense, bare-knuckled urban thriller in the tradition of Pulp Fiction and Payback and is the manga that inspired the critically acclaimed 2003 film.
* The Oldboy film, directed by Chan-Wook Park, was awarded the Grand Jury prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
* Original Japanese format.
* Translated into English for the first time.
* Each volume comes shrink-wrapped and carries an 18+ content advisory.

BERSERK VOLUME 12 TPB

KENTARO MIURA (W/A)
On sale July 12, SC, 232pg, b&w, 5 1/8" x 7 1/4", $13.95

The Band of the Hawks’ rescue of their leader, Griffith, has brought them no ease. Broken beyond healing, a frail ghost of his former glory, Griffith is now more an object of pity than a man, and the Hawks, who’ve grimly hung together under duress and death during his absence, are now on the verge of splintering to the winds. But Griffith’s dreams and ambitions, built on the bodies of his troops and the countless enemies they have slain, have not gone unnoticed in the spirit realm, and though Griffith has nowhere to go as a man, he may yet have a future . . . a future borne on jet-black wings in the company of the demon lords of the Godhand!

* Each volume of Berserk comes shrink-wrapped and carries an 18+ content advisory.
* The first seven volumes of Berserk have sold over 125,000 copies!
* Created by Kentaro Miura, Berserk is action, horror, and grim humor that inspired the wildly popular anime series.

THE KUROSAGI CORPSE DELIVERY SERVICE VOLUME 1 TPB

EIJI OHTSUKA (W) and HOUSUI YAMAZAKI (A)

On sale July 19, SC, 208, b&w, 5" x 7", $10.95

Your body is their business! Five young students at a Buddhist university, three guys and two girls, find little call for their job skills in today's Tokyo . . . among the living, that is! But all that stuff in college they were told would never pay off—you know, channeling, dowsing, ESP—gives them a direct line to the dead . . . the dead who are still trapped in their corpses and can't move on to the next reincarnation.

The five form the Kurosagi (“Black Heron”—their ominous bird logo) Corpse Delivery Service: whether suicide, murder, accident, or illness, they'll carry your body wherever it needs to go to free your soul! The kids from Kurosagi can smell a customer a mile away—it's a good thing one of the girls majored in embalming!

* The Kurosagi live-action film is tentatively scheduled for U.S. release in 2007.
* Each volume comes shrink-wrapped and carries an 18+ content advisory.
* Original Japanese format.

VAMPIRE HUNTER D VOLUME 4: TALE OF THE DEAD TOWN NOVEL

HIDEYUKI KIKUCHI (W)

On sale May 17, SC, 300pg, 5" x 7", $8.95

When a floating city becomes the target of a rash of vampire attacks, only one man can restore the oasis.

“The City,” a tiny metropolis of a few hundred sheltered citizens floating serenely on a seemingly random course a few feet above the ground, has long been thought safe from the predation of marauding monsters. It seemed like a paradise.

A paradise shattered when an invasion of apparent vampires threatens the small haven. While the Vampire Hunter known only as “D” struggles to exterminate the scourge, a former denizen of the city, the attractive Raleigh Knight, and the brash John M. Brassalli Pluto VIII seize control of the city lurching it onto a new and deadly course. D’s travails are just beginning.

A lot of good stuff. What will you be picking up? It looks like I might be picking up everything on the list. I'm currious if the Old Boy manga is going to outdo the korean movie adaptio. Also Yoshitaka Amano's and Housui's Yamazaki's work looks pretty good.

To be blunt, no. Park's film, while having the same basic plot, is drastically diffrent both in terms of style and content. The surrealistic nature of the initial third of the story is gone, as are the darkly existential themes the film is filled with (unless it takes a complete 180 past where I've read, which I doubt). If anything, the manga is basically an old school seinen revenge tale; you know, the hero is always a total badass with a soft side who meets a beautiful woman who, wouldn't ya know, is a virgin becuase she decides to save it for that one guy who's manly enough to de-flower her (I swear these are the only two leads this genre can have). It isn't quite the same as the typical Koike tale, and I'm sure there's alot more to the plot since I have alot to read. In short, don't expect something on the same level exellence of the film, but it's still worth a look especially if your a fan of the genre.
As for the other releases, I'm really only looking forward to that Amano artbook (where has the guy ever gone wrong?)

Does anyone have a guess when we'll have enough chapters for Hellsing Volume 8 to be released?

I'll be visiting Japan this week (first time, w00t!). While there, I hope to be able to look into the Hellsing release situation. Who knows, maybe vol. 8 will be released while I'm over there. In that case I'll snag a copy and get to work translating it. What really gets me is that my return flight is on the 28th of March and Berserk vol. 30 is released on the 29th... I'm just going to leave some yen with a friend and ask her to buy it and ship it to me.

Hellsing volume 8 should come out any time now. They're presently a few chapters into volume 9...I think there are only 16 or so chapters left before the series ends.

Good stuff coming out. We're approaching the Eclipse rapidly...God I love Berserk.

Oldboy is good. It's nowhere near as good as the movie, and the whole "I'm a hot virgin and I want you to have sex with me despite the fact that I just met you and you look like a homeless guy" thing is a bit annoying...but overall, it's worth reading.

More Vampire Hunter D is good.

How do you suppose DH will handle the cover for volume thirteen, considering there was some big hoopla over the nude cover for Conan #24?

Yeah, that WILL be a problem. I suspect they'll just use some other art...there is other existing Berserk art, you know...Either that, or they will use the magic of Photoshop to fix it.

Oh, and as to "huh?"...it's not like that in the manga.
