I just finished Monster Vol.2 and there was a particular scene that got me all emotional. It was spoiler[the last chapter after the guy comes out of interrogation without telling the detective where Tenma was and the little girl was waiting for him in the rain, extended her hand, smiled, he became teary eyed and they both walked together. I must admit her back-story was cliché, reminded me of Gungrave's situation with Maria, but the execution was flawless.]

Now I'm not one to be easily overcome by emotions, specially by reading material or movies, so my reaction was mainly to laugh at how I felt. My eyes got teary and I began laughing inside because I felt like crying with joy.

Seeing as there are many topics in the anime forum about emotions, I decided to start one for manga. The story is said to be more solid in manga, but how well does it do conveying messages and playing with our emotions?

What is a moment in manga you recall that has made your emotions show? Again this can be something that made you sad, happy, or mad. The topic is open to any type of genre.

Please be kind to other readers by using spoiler tags. I would also like to request saying which volume of the manga the scene took place. If you can't remember, still feel free to post but mention approximately where this occurred (first couple of volumes, somewhere in the middle, or towards the end work just fine).

I really don't get overly emotional, but there are a few series that have really inspired joy or sorrow from me. The one that always comes to mind is Black and White, a manga that at first seems anything other than heartwarming: crazy, surreal, violent, bizarre; you name it. Yet as it continues the story becomes more and more focused on the friendship between the two main characters, Black (somewhat sociopathic, street-wise punk who loves violence) and White (dim-witted, innocent and also pretty damn violent). Much of the manga is extremely dark as it delves deep into Black's corrupted soul, or shows White losing his already frail grip on reality. Yet the ending of the manga is truely inspiring, much more-so than most standard "inspirational" stories out there. I really won't even try to explain it in a spoiled, as I don't think I could find the right words. One of those rare life-affirming endings that's perfect in every way.
Hmmm...there have to be more. I'll think of some later.

With manga, you do tend to get more emotinally attached to the characters and the story line, at least for me. I think it is because instead of watching anime and having every scene laid out for you, manga lets you use your imagination to create some of the scenes that aren't drawn within the story.

With a lot of different series I have been overcome by emotions. One of them that always makes me laugh so hard it hurts is Hana Kimi. It really doesn't matter which volume, well except volume 9; I didn't like that one too much.

One manga that did make me cry was Marmalade boy volume 7. spoiler[When Yuu breaks up with Miki, I just found that so sad. He was an idiot, he should have just asked his parents instead of breaking up with Miki.]

Another one was Wish volume four when spoiler[Kohaku is forced to be in small form for the next 100 years. When she started cying, it just got to me. ]

One series that made me mad was Girl Got Game, volume 6 I think it was. It was spoiler[when Kensuke takes Kyo to the abandon building and is trying to blow it up. That just made me mad because he shouldn't take someone else's life away like that.]

In general, mainly all of my manga makes me laugh and giggle during certain scenes because it is just so funny how different characters respond to certain events.
