I've seen a bunch of previews for Desert Punk on my anime DVD's, but i thought i'd see if anybody has seen it before i buy it. Is it any good? Thanks.

I saw the 1st episode on one of thoes Newtype preview DVDs,So what my opinion is based from is just the 1st eipsode.But from what i was i liked it,it was funny,and the chairacters were likeable.Its not something i would buy new,mabye something I'd find used or for rent.

A friend of mine brought the DVD over and we watched it in a group. We listened to it in English and I thought it was pretty funny, though the English dub script took a few liberties in making it a bit more raunchy than the orginal Japanese. But overall, I felt it was witty in some spots and well "adapted" for an American audience.

ANN has a review for the first volume here and a review for the fourth volume is pending. In addition, Bamboo offered her own thoughts about the series in the most recent Shelf Life column. Those should help give you a feel for what kind of series it is.
My short version? Occasionally it's exceedingly crass, but most of the time it's good not-so-clean fun focused on an extreme anti-hero. The well-performed English dub is more sharp and snappy than the original but does take liberties with the original script. |

I will safely say that this was my least favorite purchase since buing Grenadier. The main character is the most annoying, slimey, and grating protagonist I can think of at the moment. You don't even get to see his face until episode three. I find it hard to relate to a character who is always wearing a helmet. It was not my cup of tea, although the extras are abundant on the first volume.
