This is not really a recommendation thread, but I wanted to know a few things. As I usually do, I have recently spent a lot of time watching comedy and romance anime, which is all right by me those are my favorite types, but I have not seen a good fighting anime in a while, which I also like. When I search around for something to watch I keep running into the name Bleach. I see a lot of people recommending this to others and saying this show is great, but I also hear a lot of people who really don't like it.
I have heard alot of things that deal with the style of the series. Some people compare this show to DBZ, other to shows like Naruto and Inu Yasha, and I even saw one disturbing post here on another thread that compares it to Yu Yu Hakusho. I have seen all of YYH but that was mostly because at the time I did not have access to a lot of anime, but I wasn't really enamored with the show. To me it was like a cheap version of DBZ. I tried to watch Naruto but one of the biggest drawback to me is that it resembled YYH and I quickly gave up on it. So if this is true for Bleach I should probably stay away. However I have also heard some great things about Bleach, which is why it's still on my 'want to see' list. I have heard/read that the plot alone makes it stand out amongst others and that it is also a very fun show. I also took the time to browse through a lot of public lists for more info, but since this show is usually on people's 'seen some' lists there are usually no comments. But I have seen this show rated mostly as very good and excellent by the people who's lists I like to browse for ideas. And of course there are 581 overall masterpiece votes in the encyclopedia, but I usually take something like this with a grain of salt when it is a popular series. So without being spoiled I'd like to know more about this show and why some of you like it, or don't, before I decide if I want to watch it. If anyone wants to browse my lists before leading me to or away from Bleach, here's a link |

bleach is a good anime but nothing really special or something that would make you say "oh this is one of the best". it's originality isn't something new besides with the same concept of fighting bad guys and save the day which is one of trait that is similar to DBZ. the fighting scenes are great but sometimes a little exagerrated because only of the fact that i see people getting cut up a lot of time but still getting back up. one thing that differ to naruto is that the characters are way cooler and have a more deep sense role in the plot, even though sometimes i fail to accept that they mainly just keep the main character in the light spot and have the other characters have a little less importance. overall i'd say this anime is good for entertainment, besides the reason why this anime is so well-talked it's because it's obivous that people love actions anime and that is something close to DBZ that have a lot of fighting scenes.

I wouldn't expect it to make it into my all time favorites, but occasionally it's nice to see some cool looking fights. As long as the story is fun and entertaining and the characters are likable, I don't really care if it is not Dante in terms of writing. I'm just trying to avoid the brain numbing predictablity and weak characters of YYH and Naruto.
Well I don't know, from the prices I have been seeing for the pre-orders in R1, it wouldn't be too expensive at all. |

It is similar to Naruto. It goes along the classic shonen lines pretty accurately. It does do what it does very well though, I would say that it is superior to Naruto although it takes a little bit longer to get going (The first 10-15 episodes aren't amazing - the story gets good once the first major arc starts.) There are less annoying Naruto parts and no long tournament arcs. The story is more interesting than Naruto and the first proper arc is pretty cool. However, if you do dislike anime similar to Naruto and so on, this one may well be too similar.
I think the story is fun, the characters are mostly less annoying than in Naruto and the fights scenes are pretty cool, (if you like swords.) |

I'm all about fun, and I have missed seeing an occasional cool fight scene. I tried Basilisk too, but I prefer a lighter series which is why I specified the fun part, however I did like Berserk so dark can occasionally be good, as well as swords. I semi-collect swords, or rather I occasionally buy one when I see something cool, even paid good money for a hand made reverse-blade katana, Kenshin style. OT: your avatar is my favorite in this forum, I'd like to use it if you ever decide to change it for something different. |

I liked it a lot
I'd check it out. I actually think the main bulk of it was better than Naruto, but I still like both. I'd say comparing it to standard fighting anime is like comparing YYH to DBZ. In my opinion at least. It's still not groundbreaking or anything, but it's an improvement and very entertaining to watch. |

IMO, its worth seeing.
Bleach has good action, pretty funny and a great storyline that hooked me on to the series. Just make sure you stop watching bleach before the fillers start, cause it will change your mind on the whole series, like me -DaZ |

Thank you, more nods to the side of entertaining and fun. No seriously bad comments so far, that's always a positive.
I've heard a lot about the fillers too. I'd imagine any show that gets to the 70 or 80 epsiode mark and keeps going is going to run into filler problems. I don't know; if I start it, like it, and actually make it that far, I'll probably just slow down until I know progress is being made again or they actually end the show. |

then you've pretty much said everything here because "bleach" is all about actions. besides it's more known that people hate naruto than bleach so it's a fair chance that you will like it. i hate repetitive actions but i got to love bleach and that's because the storyline is better.
actually i didn't see anything bad with the fillers added in bleach. and to be honest i'm kinda enjoying them even though the whole thing about fighting with "dolls" sound stupid. it's nothing comparable to naruto , while when i was watching the fillers in naruto i had the need to have a bottle of tylenol besides me. every anime i've seen going over 70 episodes are always filled with fillers but except hunter x hunter. if something spoken to be popular then fillers are always added. |

The fillers aren't bad, but I find them slightly annoying. Mostly because they can't advance the characters any so everyone is left acting like they forgot how to fight. Compared to Naruto, the Bleach fillers are a masterpiece though.
I'd say check the series out. Even if you do get to the fillers, you'll probably keep watching. If you do stop, make sure you tune back in once the main storyline kicks in because it's very good. |

Well it can't be any worse than spoiler[characters getting turned into chocolate or the amazing fighting candy] from DBZ.
Sheesh, tylenol? Whatever happenned to tequila? [/kidding]
Wow, I'm even getting positive replies to the fillers. If I get into a series or really like the characters fillers don't usually bother me a lot, but it depends on the series too. My favorite series Ranma is loaded with fillers, but then there is never any semblance of a continous arc that lasted for more than 3 or 4 episodes and is mostly random anyway so it was never a problem, but Inu Yasha fillers killed the series for me, even though I had liked the first 60-70 episodes or so. |

Unlike Naruto, they actually put in time and effort to come up with a filler arc that is interesting and tie it in with the story. They had to take a few liberties, but nothing that would spoil or ruin the newer manga arc. They are doing a decent job with the fillers in showcasing some of the minor characters as well, which is what I had hoped they would have done in Naruto. Dozens and dozens of interesting characters and they want to keep shoving the same 6 characters down your throat.

I haven't seen Bleach (other then the first episode) but I think that am I going to just watch this series on [AS] and if I fall in love with it, perhaps I will buy the first volume to see how big the changes (I doubt there will be a lot) will be to the series on [AS]. Till next time, Delta Kiral |
