The two animes mentioned in the topic are based on books. I was wondering if anyone know if either has been translated to any languages and where i can get them?

Thank you.

Well you can find some info on "Yukikaze" here:
http://www.sfwj.or.jp/library/1999/05/199905r.e.html
Although I doubt that it has been translated Mad

Info on the "Crest of the Stars" novel can be found here:
http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Shrine/4777/Seikai/seikai.html
I also doubt this has been translated. Although the novels themselves use a strange language system called "baronh."

The Crest of the Stars novels haven't been commercially translated, although there are probably a few fans who could theoretically translate it and put it online. I have the first novel and have translated the first page, although I've read mostly through the first chapter and have kinda browsed through the first half of the novel....

As for the language: the novel is in standard Japanese, but many names are written in kanji with furigana that doesn't match the readings. I can't quote anything as I don't have the book with me ATM, but...

The only unusual speaker I've read so far is Lafiel. She speaks similar to what I would assume an oracle or someone out of the 16th century might speak... During her introduction, her famous phrase is "Lafiel to yobu ga yoi" ("Thou shalt call me Lafiel" or so)

I haven't read far, tho, in part because I'm reading the Record of Lodoss War novels (which are written in a more straightforward manner than CotS is)...

Thank you both.

The record of lodoss war novels must have been translated, no? Considering how big that anime-series is.

How big is Crest of the stars? Those who speak of the anime speak warmly of it but is it that well known?

/ÄlveKatt, who impatiently awaits the US release of Banner of the stars 2.

Huh? They wouldn't have to translate the Abh language to english, would they? They would just have to translate the translations and descriptions of it, along with the rest. It might be hard translating, but it should in no way be impossible...

In the future i plan to learn Japanese, maybe when i feel somewhat secure in that i should try to learn Abh? Smile It would surely be cooler to know Abh than knowing Klingon. Hehe. Cool

As for the Furigana that happens to by the wounderful Abh language Baronh. Razz Such as the word for Cruiser "junsatsukan"...above it is something like "Reisuku"...but if translated correctly into Baronh it's Résic which means Cruiser. Just fun nifty things Morioka did ^^

For the Seikai no Monshou I-III novels..."Crest of the Stars" you can get fan translations here
