If it weren't for the streaming successes of Druaga and Blassreiter when they became the 1st legal simulcasts as part of the Spring '08 anime lineup, would the frequency of simulcasts not be what it is today (Since then, many simulcasts have been streamed, dubbed, and physically released)?

[EDIT: Changed your thread title since it kinda' repeated your opening sentence. Now, the title sounds more like an attention-grabber. -TK]

I'll have to take your word for it that those two titles were the first two legal simulcasts (if anybody has different info, pipe up).

I have no idea whether they were successful or not, but I suspect it doesn't matter. Providing legit simulcasts is an effective anti-piracy tool, so the legal simulcast thing probably would have happened regardless of how those two titles performed.

Well, I suppose I should've had the success statement reserved for Druaga's premiere because I read that it pulled 150,000 views on its YouTube page.

I think streams are a natural evolution so they would've happened anyway. And due to the existing popularity of streaming video thanks to YouTube people were more comfortable adopting it as a valid way to watch their anime.

If my memory serves me correct I believe strike witches was gonzo first pioneer project for simcast. Druaga probably falls under crunchyrolls first simcast with gonzo.
