Always a treat to read Amy's Naruto pieces. I'm seeing the movie tomorrow, and this review has gotten me sufficiently pumped.

I kind of hope this is the last we see of the Otsutsuki clan - unless, of course, they start infusing its members with actual personalities. Personally, I'm not opposed to seeing our heroes fight weaker villains, but I understand the producers' desire to roll out progressively more powerful threats. I'll reserve judgement until actually seeing the film, but Momoshiki and Kinshiki sound lame, even by Naruto movie villain standards. At least the antagonist from The Last had a somewhat original scheme; these guys are just rehashing Kaguya's.

the reviews from Amy McNulty are always a joke.
She gives B+ to the story, but she says: "Tedious villains and world-shaking conflict acting as a backdrop for character development". She thinks she is reviewing a naruto episode? This is a movie, so when we saw a movie with tedious villains and weak character development, it's impossible to give B+ to the story.

Furthermore, A+ for animation...lol this isn't a ghibly movie or something like that.

When was weak character development mentioned? Also, it doesn't sound like the villains played a central role in the story, so them being uninspired obviously wasn't a game-changing detriment to the film. The Last had a horrendously cliched antagonist, and it's still one of my favorite Naruto films, as well as the second highest-grossing one. Additionally, I was unaware that Ghibli was the only Japanese studio capable of producing A-quality animation.

Yes please don't compare the villains in the movie to the ones in the episodes...its always about timing...I agree, the villain in The Last, was not so great yet I still loved the movie. As for the animation, there have already been fight scenes in the Boruto movie that was "leaked" on Facebook...I tried to hold myself not to watch those short fight scenes vids because my friends shares them and i dont wanna spoil it for myself...Anyways, I'm watching the movie tomorrow and I am pumped and excited!! Cool

spoiler[One of the main messages of this movie is that parents should have more talks with their kids(parent/child relationships bonding) by the author words himself(tumblir translation source).]

Though I pretty much spoiled myself a great deal from reditts translations, tumblir and forums sites a few months earlier; but even still this flim is still exciting to get me pump to buy it when it becomes available for dvd.

This is basically Kishimoto sensei greatest work and for fans all over to experience the final journey, the story of Naruto son, Boruto & the next generation & older generation guests return live on screen will be breathtaking, thrilling and action filled memorable to come.

I respectfully disagree. Many fans would say Part 1 was Kishimoto's greatest work, and the series taking a nosedive after the Battle with Pain.

But the next generation is just rehash of the original characters and the plot offers no real development. Also it doesn't give positive messages with parental abandonment and neglect. Which does not go well with Sasuke's abuse of Sakura throughout Part 2 of threats and actual murder attempts. All in all, Kishimoto's just milking the cow that we will see for the next decade or two, like Dragonball.

Most of the Naruto films have been mediocre - until The Last, which I loved so much, and with Kishimoto writing this film, I expect it to be just as good. The review got me hyped; I'm seeing the film in a few days! Very Happy

I think that Naruto himself could've stopped Momoshiki but I think why they spoiler[had Boruto] doing the final blow because he was the movie protagonist.

And the thing about villains as great as/greater than Kaguya, I find that ridiculous considering it seems like she was developed to be the strongest baddie.

The one member of her clan that I would like to see more of is Hagoromo. Heck, I want a manga spin-off starring him.

Though what's funny is that a lot of themes with this don't really work when you remember the context of the setting such as spoiler[ Bolt getting disqualified for using as device as it's believed to be cheating. Uh, Naruto, it's a ninja test, not a junior high history exam. Ninjas are SUPPOSED to "cheat", they're SUPPOSED to get the drop on their enemy so they can reduce risk. Heck, the very first Chuunin exam we saw RELIED on cheating without getting caught. It's called being resourceful. ] So yeah, you need to remember the setting and context, otherwise any sort of message gets muddied. Kishimoto always did fumble with that.

Is this screening in subs or dubs? Nobody is clarifying if the movie is in English or not

The version being released in US theaters is subtitled, so I assume that's what was reviewed here.

That's the first I've heard of cheating being mandatory for a ninja. Also if you recall how that first exam went in part 1 everyone but Naruto cheated (the cheating wasn't even mandatory ) spoiler[so him getting upset at his son for cheating in the test ] isn't a development that came out of nowhere or out of context.

Not to bust anyone's chops but it's "Ghibli"

With regard to Boruto getting in trouble for cheating, I think his father's point of contention was the way he went about it. Naruto's generation cheated using techniques they spent years perfecting, whereas Boruto used a device that enabled him to execute attacks he never took the time to learn. Also, from what I recall, the unspoken rule during the original Chunin Exams was "it's only cheating if you get caught," and Boruto most definitely got caught. I believe cheating was only acceptable during the written portion of the exams, and Boruto's generation didn't appear to have a written exam - at least not one that took place onscreen.
