This can completely work as long as it "new characters", trying to parrot the source material would be awkward to long time series followers.

It will have as much of a connection as it did that City Hunter Kdrama to the source (i.e. NONE).

Wow how about a trigger warning ANN. Seeing that picture on the home page, now I have to go watch the movie again to get some m@sterpiece action!
This sounds like an interesting project. Hopefully I will be able to see something from it online in the future. |

In a way, this is like using the Idolmaster branding to launch a new idol group, with a tie-in drama.
AKB48 has successfully franchised its "format" into other regional and national groups, so doing a similar thing with Idolmaster seems pretty logical. Could be a big success, depending on how competent the Korean production company is. |

Which I just finished watching last week, was garbage on every level, I don't get the high praises and reviews it gets. |

Haha, I would die to take a look at the license agreements. I am 100% sure they are full of riduculous clauses like:
... the girls can show 70% of their hips, but never more than 15% of their ass-cheeks. It is prohobited that they kiss in stage, but they can maintain hand contact for no longer than 4.5 seconds ... In all seriousness though, I fail to see why a Japanese finctional idol group can transpire into a Korean real-life drama series. It's sounds like a bit of a stretch to me... but then again I have no idea about Japan-Korea cultural exchanges. |

Trainwreck of the decade. Did anyone in the fanbase ask for this? I can't see much good coming out of this and can see everything being ruined (except the main canon of the franchise itself, thank goodness). They could've done a Million Live anime with an emphasis on the J-Pop vs K-Pop rivalry instead and they would have a really unique premise and new life to the franchise.

They already have a couple of Korean idols for Idolmaster. http://www.project-imas.com/wiki/Yujin_Im http://www.project-imas.com/wiki/Juney http://www.project-imas.com/wiki/Haena_Ryoo The question will be what kind of music we will see from them. KPOP is very hip hop heavy in general with the exception of extreme Aegyo like Lovelyz, G-Friend and Oh My Girl. |

I'd watch it if it was North Korea
Seriously though, I see no reason it can't work. It's no different than any of the other Korean pop idol dramas they show all the time. Last edited by v1cious on Fri Apr 15, 2016 12:28 pm; edited 2 times in total |

well there are large story points in the series that might work like Chihaya's younger brother, Miki wanting to join Ryuuguu komachi, and the last arc where everyone is successful but the group is essentially split apart. But these story arcs could work for any idol group. I guess the Kdrama wants some weight or brand recognition for their production. |

People are acting like this can't possibly be adapted well but I don't get it. Idolm@ster is like an animated reality show. It's literally the ups and downs of people trying to make it in the music industry. I don't know what makes you all think that something like that is just 100% impossible to adapt. Never before has there been a good series/movie about people trying to make it an industry that's hard to get it into, nor has there ever been a successful "Behind the Scenes" show about people trying to make it in an industry.
What is that line of thought based on? There are fictional and reality shows about this stuff. It's totally adaptable and someone wanting to be a pop star isn't some Japan only concept that no other country could possibly relate to. |

I ask myself the same question about most of the stuff anime fans say or claim nowadays. People reactions to things seem to be so sudden, kneejerk and absolute without any sort of coherent thought process, research or sometimes even anything to actually contribute that it's hard for me to even believe that they believe the things they are saying or are committed to them. It makes conversation really tough case you try to banter with people and they just flip out if it's not what they seemingly want to hear or believe Anyway I'm surprised this isn't love live getting this considering how unearthly popular it is in Korea but knowing what K-Drama is and that there a huge idol scene in Korea already I don't see why this couldn't work. Sadly I could see Japanese fan meltdowns that it's airing in Korea and not Japan though. |
