Well... To be fair, popular, award-winning manga getting anime is just a matter of time, no?

Not surprising at all! My one hope is that they find a studio that can capture the unique style of the manga.

Not at all. There are tons of popular, award-winning shoujo manga that have not - and never will - get an anime.
