Damn. So nostalgic. Really looking forward to the new material.

I'm curious as to whether or not the decapitation will be censored or not. Although it was slightly censored on the original broadcast (I largely suspect TMS did animate it uncensored and had to quickly censor it once they found out the network didn't allow it, given I SERIOUSLY doubt they would've shot it that way in the first place), the re-airing of Episode 1 that happened a few years back for the HD Remaster removed the shots where the decapitated head falls onto the ground and the kids wondering what they heard. Normally the HD rebroadcasts slightly cut scenes for time, but that cut seemed very specific.
Either way, definitely looking forward to seeing a new version of this episode.

Quote: | Funimation has been releasing the television anime series in North America, also under the title Case Closed. |
That makes it sound like they're still releasing it, when they dropped it years ago.
I mean, the show is still in print, but they haven't released anything new in years...

I would be very interested in this if I thought that there was some chance that Funimation would license it and release it on DVD.
But since they have not licensed any of the TV episodes since #130 and there are now well over 800, or any of the movies since #6 and there are now at least 20, or any of the other specials at all, I do not have much hope of ever seeing this.
If Funimation ever decides that there really is a market for Case Closed I will have some money waiting for them.
For now, it must be over a year since I have watched those 130 TV episodes and six movies. I should do that again.
I think that I am caught up with the manga that Viz has released.

Yeah. I was going to point out the same thing.

I don't think that Case Closed did very well for Funimation. There was a lot of screaming about the stuff they changed (like changing the names and trying to claim that they weren't in Japan) even though it was forced by TMS, and when they started releasing it on DVD initially, it was only 3 episodes at a time (probably because they were still editing them at that point), which is bound to have ticked off a lot of fans. They also skipped most of what they'd shown on Cartoon Network when they started releasing the DVDs, which made it so that it didn't work very well to pick up the series without having seen it on Cartoon Network. So, while not all of that was Funimation's fault, I think that they ultimately shot themselves in the foot with how the show was handled.
I expect that it would have gone much better though had TMS not made the requirements that they did. This was never a show that stood any chance of being marketed to kids in the US - not when the very subject of death tends to be completely avoided in TV for kids. So, it wouldn't surprise me if the show was doomed from the start, much as that sucks, but if Funimation had at least handled the DVDs better, then maybe it would have been salvageable.
When they released movies 3 - 6 after having not released any more of the show for a while, I assumed that it was an attempt to see whether there was enough interest in the show to license more of it, but since we never got any more past that, I expect that the sales were too poor to merit licensing more. And it wouldn't surprise me if TMS were simply asking way too much for this series because of how big a hit it is in Japan, in which case, the show would have to do particularly well to be profitable, and I think that it's clear that Case Closed was never a big hit for Funimation.
But at least Viz continues to release the manga.
