Well, looks like I'll wait to buy this version then!
It'd be nice if the original theaterical cut would also be included in a new release.

Hmm, the timing doesn't strike me as strange. I guess that's because it's common in the west (or at least it was in the 2000's, when more people were buying DVDs) for a "director's cut" of a movie to come out many years after its original release.

And the moment the film started bringing in the money the director set to work on these extra scenes.
