Why the stuffed animal aesthetic?
Shouldn't Psyduck have slick feathers on it?

It's going for the 'realistic' style that American live-action adaptions like to do, like the also similar Sonic the Hedgehog film. I always saw it as having rubbery skin myself given the way it stretches and snaps in the anime, like a yellow rubber ducky, since it doesn't have any feathery visual or sound effects like bird Pokemon do.

I reckon sales for this movie went up after the Sonic abomination.

SEGA should have given the film rights to Disney, not Paramount. Their animation department would have gotten it right. At least with Detective Pikachu, Warner Bros. captured the essence of the Pokémon franchise.

Given that it's based on a platypus, probably not?

Damn Detective Pikachu looks so good it might just get me back into the franchise. Been burned out since X & Y, but with this and the new game, who knows...

Is it just wishful thinking to think that at the last minute, Warner seems to have lately been trying to move the marketing for the movie OFF of Pika-Pool, and court the actual Pokemon fans who've been responding well to everything else?

All of these new videos that have been coming out have been coming out directly from Reynolds' accounts, so WB might not even be directly involved in them.

Not everyone likes Disney's Live Action/Computer Generated films though.

So them "getting it right" is debatable.

Yeah in spite all the whining about Mr.Mime being uncanny valley and people complaining about Jigglypuff having fur.

I disagree. This film looks nothing like what it's based on. Someone made a comparison on YouTube here. But Ryme City is supposed to basally be London, yet in the movie it looks like some generic dark neon lights city of some kind. It has almost none of the aesthetics from the game. The games actually had live-action trailer advertisements that looked a lot closer to to how the Pokemonverse is, including using a more faithful artstyle for the CG Pokemon. Hollywood really has an aversion to bright and colorful colors and scenery for some reason.

To you of course much in the same way not everything in the Sonic trailer is bad to me.

Was comparing the butthurt which was equally overblown and whiny. Except people came around to warming up to Detective Pikachu eventually.
