I figured this was always going to be a pretty niche film for most audiences, but I'm so glad GKIDS still gave it a theatrical release (and a week-long one at that instead of just a day or two). Such a gorgeous film and fantastic to see on a large screen with surround sound!

Not quite. As long as you do a week-long qualifying run in one of six major cities (LA, NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, or Atlanta) you can qualify. GKIDS could have very easily done a limited run 2-day showing this week like plenty of other Fathom Event screenings and a short LA run closer to awards season.
