I am actually fascinated the particular shift into the BDSM element that both this and Gushing over Magical Girls is brining into the mainstream as far as ecchi/sub genre goes.
It is a very obscure element within the anime industry as a whole, heck anyone who has been around long will tell you that even in H-Scene is a rare element unless it has to do with a more ntr type scenario which frankly i find distasteful and hurts the element of what the s and m really is all about in terms of a relationship and power dynamic.

I like how they talk about adapting the reward scenes and then dovetails into addressing all the extra content they've tacked onto it like character songs and after-shows because that was the priority over accurately adapting the reward scenes at times.

If you check out the internet chatter, the volume really goes up when there’s a new “reward” It really seems to be the highlight for many.

I have so often seen anime be very sexual, many times it will reference kinky subjects with calling people masochists and things like that but not usually get into proper play. Then I watched Gushing Over Magical Girls and for the first time I said "this is literally a BDSM scene." There are BDSM magazines, there is talk of dominating people, then stuff like the ageplay scene really makes it obvious that even if the characters never say they are engaging in kink it is perfectly clear.
Personally, I love this new BDSM element showing up in anime. Vanilla fan service gets so old after awhile and using kink makes the sexual scenes feel more character driven then the millionth time we see someone shriek and cover their body in a hot spring or some thinly veiled metaphor for an orgasm building up. It is also a fun way to make those scenes more explicit without increasing the nudity which can lead to censorship. It is a great way to bridge the gap between the focus on sexuality that explicitly nude pornography can have but that has a very narrow audience and the wider appeal of character driven ecchi. It makes the characters (in Gushing at least, haven't seen much of Chained) feel like they are engaging in sexuality for a character driven reason where you can be invested in them and appreciate the lovingly crafted fan service.
