Couple things of note - most Musou games like this only show their true colors at higher difficulties. You get more rewards for turning it up, and the combat usually starts to require some moment-to-moment strategy and attention.
If you are not a fan of Hyper Attacks, Orochi 3 Ultimate is the defacto Musou game to try right now. If you don't mind them, then there's a good chance you may find Orochi 4 Ultimate to be fun.
Samurai Warriors 4 is a really great way to get familiar with the Samurai side of the cast.
If Japanese "history" or Romance of the Three Kingdoms isn't a subject matter that catches your fancy, then Hyrule Legends for the Switch is possibly one of the best Musou games ever made as well, especially for new players.
Dynasty Gundam 2 (story) and 3 (combat) are really great as well but sadly stuck on PS3 and XB360.

I would like to 2nd what you are saying @LinkTSwordmaster. Orochi Warriors is the ultimate Tecmo-Koei Warrior Games (any latest version of it will do).
Other than that, if you prefer a clone with different SKIN. You got a nice selection from Ken's Rage, Gundam Dynaysty Warriors, Hyrule Warriors, etc . . .
