Might want to remove that last line as it doesn't really make sense when the main anime is this year.

This would've been a nice throwback anime if it wasn't crypto garbage.

Awesome to finally see a web3 anime project that delivers on its promises, uses the money raised with the NFTs in the way that was intended, and lets the community take part in the creative journey from start to end.

Yes, web3 has a bad name, and indeed there are many scams. it's a minefield that I wouldn't recommend anyone walk into without proper due diligence.

But this project is a great example (one of the very few, sadly) of what good can be done by using blockchain and NFTs in terms of crowdfunding and community involvement.

Shinobanai! Crypto Ninja Sakuya actually also did this, but honestly? That's not really an exciting achievement when you see how many anime and manga projects have done similar things using Kickstarter without burning down the planet with pointless URLs that can become lost media.

Anyways, Galverse is particularly insidious as I wrote about back in November. Not only can you guy their crappy pictures in vending machines but they literally exploit the labor of their own fans through their "WAGMAA" — 'we’re all gonna make an anime' — approach to making the show.

It's all gross. We need to make it clear we're not interesting in any of this garbage in the US or Sony/Crunchyroll is gonna pull more nonsense like this that sucks for fans everywhere.

I understand the hate that NFTs and crypto projects get in general, as many are scams and rugpulls, and those totally deserve the hate they get.

But why direct the hate to one of the few projects that really delivered something, didn't just run away with the money, and actually spent the last 3 years working very hard to produce an anime. Over 100+ people have been involved, from renowned anime studios.

Also I don't see how Galverse is exploiting their fans' labor? Nobody is required to do any labor, or contribute anything for that matter. If fans have the opportunity to participate in the creative process of something they like, isn't that a great thing?

By the way, the statement that NFTs are burning down the planet has not been true for the past 3 years, since Ethereum abandoned the whole Proof of Work mining architecture in September 2022, reducing energy consumption by 99.95%.

In my opinion it's better to crowdfund through blockchain with all of the funds directly going to the creators, than to fund through a company like Kickstarter which takes 5% of all raised funds with an additional 3-5% going to their payment providers, extracting 100s of millions of dollars per year that could have gone to creators instead.
