I have always had Yes checked on "Notify on new Private Message" and have only ever gotten pop-up window notifications, which is all I want. Recently, for the first time ever I also got an email notification.
Since something seems to have changed, my question is, if I say No to "Notify on new Private Message" in my settings, will that also now kill the pop-up notifications, or just the emails? I don't see any way to treat them differently.

There's a slight difference in how the notifications are different, and that is you'll see it from whichever account you happen to be logged in (email, ANN or both). From my understanding, "ON' means you get both a popup AND an email and "OFF" means popup only or no notification at all. It sounds like that might not totally line up with what you described so let's see what a staff person has to say.
