Not sure what K-On has to do here besides girls rock-band theme, but it is clearly an attempt to make their own Bandori rival.

It’s funny to see BanG Dream! so obviously imitated like this, when Bandori got off to a legendarily rough start and looked dead in the water: BanG Dream! Dōjin Event Only Recruits 9 Circles.

Almost exactly 4 years after this announcement, and one full year after "Girls Band Cry" anime aired, the franchise and its associated Togenashi Togeari band are still huge throughout Asia, due to the revolutionary "illustration style" 3D-CGI animation, engaging story and characters plus great music! The fandom has been noted for its staying power.
GBC failed to break through in the West though, partly because of negligently delayed marketing and lack of eng-dub, but mostly due to the difficult personality of MC Iseri Nina. She's irritatingly irrational and outright unsufferable, which makes her realistic for a teenage dropout rock vocalist, but incompatible with the "businesslike" expectiations of american entertainment industry and general public. In July 2025, TogeToge will perform at L.A. anime convention, let's see if they can make an impact? |
