But one day, the class' most popular guy Ueno sees her taking care of the flowers. Air Date & Platform: July 04, 2025 (Friday) Available on: Pending Episode Count / Runtime: Pending [EDIT: Fancy opener stuff edited. -TK] |

Having read the manga, I feel like the internal monologue wasn't as central here. The early parts of this series felt closer to a Shojou take on Watamote [I know its actually Seinen] than here. As is, its fine enough but isn't so punchy.
This way may work better once the show grows into being an ensemble piece, but will it hold the audience until then? |

I got a pretty big laugh when I noticed that all of the characters last names in this series are all the names of train stations along Tokyo's JR Yamanote Line!

Holy moly that is quite the persecution complex. I remember thinking like that for a bit as a teenager and then discovering that most people do not have any interest in you (be it good or bad). The first episode was amusing enough but me watching it long term will depend on how the other characters are and if there is some development for Hana. Speaking of other characters, the ending bit has me feeling a bit sus about Sumire.

The second episode made me laugh since Hana is struggling as much as she can but nothing is stopping the romance train. Ueno is showing an interest in her despite all the fumbling about and trying to avoid him. She really has to stop with the accidents if she wants to keep her hands functioning though.

Hana's birthday present should have been a pair of these:

I am finding this so far a good deal more charming for romance that most other anime that do the romance thing. She does need to start paying attention to where she puts her hand, granted I know that I have certainly had my share of being clumsy.

I thought that Sumire was sus due to seeming a bit too perfect. Episode 3 showed that she has a hidden side and can be calculating, despite that I really liked how she and Hana interacted. Hana is just so pure that she is just not on the same wavelength plus that she is already so negative about herself that there is nothing Sumire can really do (it did result in some funny moments). The ending bit seems to indicate them as frenemies of sorts.

This episode is the real move into being more of an ensemble piece, which is a step up for the show.
I appreciate this as having two people doing Hachiman from Oregairu style social overanalysis, and basically being cringeworthy failures because that kind of thing rarely goes so well in real life. Its comic but it speaks to the power of sincerity versus artificiality. This is probably a good episode to decide if the shows for you or not; you've seen the romance, the cast has started to grow, you like it or you don't. |

As of episode 4 I rather like the cast. They are all flawed but even the more prickly ones (the little brother and Sumire) among them are not devoid of good qualities. They also seem to be growing as characters, some a bit more slowly than others though. Romance wise it seems to be a slow burner.

Kudos to Gotanda for being pretty sharp, he was quick to figure out Sumire and realize that her approach won't work.

Episode 6
Final score: Cicada 1, Sumire 0 (good that Tabata did not smash it). |

Hana may stumble a lot (hurting herself in the process) but she sure is making a lot of progress while not trying to do so. She is becoming a part of the social activities of the class and her interactions with Tsutomu are driving Yousuke up the wall in jealousy while he does not understand that feeling. |

Good lord, the end result was sweet but it sure was a whole adventure getting that present and giving it. |

Color me impressed, romance shows usually have glacial progress/pacing yet here we are nearing the end of the season and have come pretty far. Ueno knows who he loves, Sumire got rejected while becoming a better person and Tabata.... is still the same? |
