Headline says Mugen Train. I thought I was in a time loop lol, this is Infinity Castle.

Edit: They caught their mistake, thank god we're not actually back in 2020, panic over.

Definitely seeing this the day of release. Excellent animation and a simple, yet sublime storytelling combined create a powerful anime that just resonates with audiences. Ufotable did it justice.

It's going to be a real pain dodging spoilers and leaks in the 2 months gap between the japanese release and the global release.

Not to mention that knowing aniplex they are going to release bunch of trailers with lots of spoilers for the west after the japanese release, just like they did with mugen train.

Best case: This trilogy of films will adapt the rest of the manga into a fast paced, exciting conclusion.

Worst case: This trilogy of films will ONLY adapt the infinity castle stuff and leave the countdown chapters unadapted, resulting in aniplex rereleasing the (at that point) finished trilogy into a TV series that will proceed into the final section of the manga for a "complete adaptation"....in 2029...

I'll let you decide what is more likely....but if I am spot on for the latter...please kill me.

If we go by this trailer they just released- the trilogy will adapt the rest of the manga.

Yes and this will be a huge risk for everyone involved. Stretch out the rest as 2 series with a bunch of filler arcs, compilation movies, non-canon movies and "movies" that are actually just the first few episodes of the season as usual and you make a ton of money with very low risk. But this approach is basically counting on all 3 films to be as big as Mugen Train, was a "Titanic", "Avatar" or "Avengers Endgame" type box office event for shonen anime - note that Mugen Train made 3 times the box office of One Piece Red - to make up for what they are forgoing.

We are a long way from Boruto The Movie shocking people with $38 million (Naruto The Last the previous year made less than $3 million). If this gamble works, it may change the anime industry and - based on how badly recent Pixar, Disney and DreamWorks animated films are doing - maybe even the global movie industry. But if it doesn't, which appears to be the more likely scenario as the Demon Slayer frenzy of 5 years ago has since been supplanted by Solo Leveling (and before that Jujutsu Kaisen) there is going to be a ton of finger pointing.

There are billboard ads in my local theater for this movie (saw them when I went in to see F1). Sony clearly has expectations.

Bro is yapping a lot, who cares? they are doing the right thing, whether they maximize potential money or not. they were never going to make any of what you described anyway.
the most they were going to make is what the guy before me described- splitting the infinity arc movies to episodes and then after them doing the final battle as a tv series, that's it.
they didn't do filler arcs or non-cannon movies when demon slayer was at its peak so they weren't going to do that now.

I don't think all of the trilogy movies will reach mugen train success or surpass it simply because there is going to be a movie every year and half to 2 years one after another, I just don't see how it could maintain the same level of hype, I do think the first movie that is coming now, and the finale movie will at least be close to mugen train in success, if any of the trilogy movies could suffer from audience "fatigue" is the 2nd one, which would be unfortunate because it's going to be the best movie out of the 3, if we go by source material.

Huh...guess I'll be the one who predicts it will do at least what Mugen Train did in terms of success. I'll be surprised if it does less given how well the compilation movies did (which were mostly reruns from tv).
