Wait, Tougen Anki ranked on TV? That’s unexpected. Very Happy

Prime Friday late evening slot helped a lot.

Well, a long lifespan and future seasons seem pretty much guaranteed if Tougen Anki keeps pulling numbers like this. When was the last time One Piece lost to a brand new series?

Last time? Literally the end of 2024, when the exactly same Friday slot was occupied by the Magilumiere Inc S1 - which numbers of viewership were always above or slightly above the One Piece.

People can always talk all about the power of infamous "Detective Conan waiting room" slot on Saturday 17:30, which always make the rating number skewed no matter the quality of the show - but since the establishment in late 2023 Friday Anime Night slot of NTV (also maybe known amongst community as "Frieren slot" - since it was the series that was the first frontrunner show) anime series running in that timeslot were always proven to be ended in amongst the top 10, and if the series were already proven to be a success it still get major increase in numbers - like first half of this year, where that slot was occupied by none other but Apothecary Diaries S2, which was constantly among the most viewed series of the season while S1 only occasionally got appeareance in rankings.

The power of good spot on TV is no joke.

Yeah, what WANNFH said. I was expecting this pretty much from the first time I saw on the Wikipedia article for Friday Anime Night that the next show after TAD S2 would be Tougen Anki.

It's how broadcast TV works. On the night of the 11th, Friday Roadshow's airing of Kingdom 4: Return of the Great General got an individual rating of 4.4 and a household rating of 6.9. A lot of those people went to bed afterward, but enough stuck around to get the Tougen Anki premiere an individual rating of 1.8 and a household rating of 3.1.

It's not a guarantee of viewership. Only eight Magilumiere episodes made the charts; the last time I scraped the numbers was in March, but TAD S2 was showing much stronger and more consistent performance. (Actually, TAD's ratings might've even been better than Frieren's?)

Tougen Anki had more legs than I expected.
